Crash one: opening email, froze up, restarted self. Then got stuck on a boot page not the post screen.

Crash two: got to login screen, logged on, then nothing just mouse arrow and black screen.

Booted to safe mode to back up important files.

Crash three: logged in got the desktop. Moved the mouse froze for a few seconds. Rainmeter never finished starting. Restarted self got stuck at the same screen as the first crash.

Booted to safemode let it sit for about 3 hrs shut down. Let it sit for about 30 seconds then booted up.

Everything is fine... or is it not. So I'm here for some help to get some memory dumps for you guys to put this to rest.

Laxar recommended it and I want to have mem dumps analyzed before blaming that program. Especially since I've used it for months without a hiccup.

I enjoy and do actively use rainmeter...

If John thinks it may be responsible save your settings and remove it... (create .rmskin found in options)

If the crash reoccurs rainmeter likely wasn't the culprit and you can move on... once the crashing is solved you can reinstall it.

FWIW, the drivers may have also become corrupt and a new install could fix the issue...

Saving the skin, uninstalling and recovering later is such a simple task it shouldn't be skipped over just because it is unlikely IMO...

Well its behaving itself now. Im thinking a driver got stuck in a state thus messing with the whole computer. Anyways I'll keep an eye on it. I would like to know if mem dumps were created and if it detected an issue before crashing.

Just quickly, rainmeter is fine. I use it actively and have no issues.

After doing some research, and contacting emachines support turns out the firmware on my hard drive is corrupted and will only be a matter of time before complete corruption.

They gave me a temporary fix which will include a firmware flash for the hard drive, they said to run it first before running the OS recovery disk that I was suppose to have made when the machine was new.

I bought a new windows 7 disk/licence was on sale at our officemax. I'll overwrite the copy of windows already installed when I get that firmware update from emachines.

I finally got the email with the firmware update. Ran it. Surprise Surprise, I got this message, "Invalid update, none needed. Firmware Health: OK. Exiting to BIOS."

So I've come to the conclusion that windows is corrupted because my itunes process starts but doesn't actually run. I've tried reinstalling itunes to no avail. Well here goes the painful job of backing everything up :(

That was presented to me after I got home. I dont know guys but this is a new install of Windows. I'm thinking we're gonna have to start blaming hardware.

Shall we start with the ram?

I'd start with RAM yes. On my phone with limited signal, you'll find a tutorial in the hardware tutorial section.

Odd, I got a very similar error yesterday. Nothing came of it though. My pc has passed memtest86. Odd we both get th error within a few days.

I/O issues can be hard drive related, too. Might be worth checking for and automatically repairing a corrupted file system with a disk check.

No - not RAM.

Mike is right - I/O error. HDD may be failing.

Per your screenshot -- exception code 0xc0000185 = STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR

Run chkdsk as Mike suggested.

If no bad sectors, run SeaTools for DOS LONG test - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/showthread.php/4072-Hard-Drive-(HDD)-Diagnostics

If that passes, run HD Tune - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/sh...HDD)-Diagnostics?p=32647&viewfull=1#post32647

EDIT: Do you have an HDD or SSD?

As per my system specs here it is the Hitachi hdd

I haven't had another I/O error yet but I will be sure to give those a go then I can correct the problem and order the right part.

It is imperative that it is unstood I only have enough cash for one shot at this. With my phone on the friz I have limited funds and its either the ram or the hard drive. Or the phone. It'll be a long time before I cash in on the recyclables so penny pinching and an acturate dianosis are a must!

I will run the said tests when I get back up and I will post results.

P.s. before the Windows rewrite I could only back up my 148gb in safe mode. It would fail in normal mode. After the rewrite this I/O error is the only thing I've seen. So I've got my hands tied from reinstalling all my stuff just to find myself tripping this all over again.

There are no guarantees in life, but I can say without reservation that no one here would recommend hardware replacement unless a reasonable degree of certainty existed.

IMO, the 0xc0000185 exception + the other problems you have described warrants the HDD being tested in addition to the RAM.

Apologies for not looking at system specs under your username.

What I would really like to get from you.... the output of the jcgriff2 BSOD app, even if you have to run it in safemode, please.

It will take < 10 minutes to run, zip, upload and attach.
