I am a retired Systems Administrator/Systems Programmer. I wrote my first program in 1966 (in HS), and I sent my first e-mail in 1974 (via FTP) and my first real e-mail in 1983. I spent over 25 years as an IBM Mainframe systems programmer, where my job was to review all of the system dumps. I then did Unix systems administration and e-mail support. I get the feeling these days that very few people want to look at a Windows system dump; my first thing with a BSOD is to run Windbg, even though I am not sure wnat commands to run. When I looked at IBM mainframe system dumps, I had access to the source code; this was necessary to determine what had happened. These days, access to source code is tightly controlled, and many "support specialists" have no access to the source code and thus cannot do a good job of problem diagnosis.
