Hello, I am running Windows 8 64bit and for the life of me I have been trying to get Windows Update to install the following, but every time I do this I receive the following:

Failed: 10 updates
Error(s) found:
Code 800736B3
Code 8007371B
Code 80073701

  • Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2838727)

  • Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8 for X64-based Systems (KB2847928)
  • Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2813430)
  • Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2839894)
  • Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 for x64 based Systems (KB2836947)
  • Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 for x64-based Systems (KB2805222)
  • Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 for x64-based Systems (KB2805227)
  • Update for Microsoft Camera Codec Pack for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2836187)
  • Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2822241)
  • Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2845533)

I am running Norton Antivirus and thought this was conflicting, but apparently not (same results after disabling). I have also tried detecting and fixing problems in Windows Update but to no avail either, this still serves up the same result.

Please help, these look like really critical updates, and I want to ensure the integrity/quality/security of my system. I have tried to upload the CBS logs as instructed however the upload system keeps saying upload failed. Can you help with just this information?

Many thanks in advance,
Ash

Hello Ash, and welcome to Sysnative :)

I really need those CBS logfiles - can you please upload them to Microsoft Skydrive: https://skydrive.live.com/‎

...and then paste me a link here. Make sure to set the file as publicly accessible :)

Thank you!

Richard

Many thanks for this although it hasn't resolved the problem. I ran the Norton uninstaller to totally remove the antivirus and firewall. Rebooted the machine and reattempted the update, exact same problem and same error codes. Ialso ran the update troubleshooter which apparently 'fixed' the problem but then when I reran the updater it repeated the exact same issue and error codes as before. Do you have any further suggestions as to how I might resolve? Do the CBS logfiles shed any light?

Many thanks again, your advice is much appreciated.

Hello again Ash :)

Please start an Elevated Command Prompt: How to start an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7 and Vista

and copy and paste in the following:
fsutil resource setautoreset true %systemdrive%\

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.tm*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.blf
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.regtrans-ms

and press enter after the final line if necessary.

If you are asked if you are sure, type Y and press enter.

Then reboot your computer & let me know if the problems continue.

Thank you!

Richard

Many thanks for this. I have done this but alas still no change. I notice that when I run the commands in the elevated command prompt I receive the following errors (attached as screenshot as it won't let me copy/paste). I've closed down all programs but it still shows this result. Again, I'm drawing blanks, by any chance would you have a suggestion?

Thanks again, I appreciate this is frustrating!

Ash

Hello again :)

I am so sorry about the delay. I've been completely overworked recently & have struggled to stay afloat.

Can you please press and hold the Windows Key & then press X. Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Copy and paste in the following: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

and press enter. Once complete, please upload another set of CBS logs.

Thank you!

Richard

Hi no problems, it's fantastic you are able to help. Unfortunately, when trying to do this I get the following error msg:

I have attached the log file it created. Any suggestions, this is pretty beyond me now! View attachment dism.log

Hello again :)

Can you please zip up another C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder please? I know the tool is called DISM, I know it tells you about DISM.log, but actually, much of the logging goes into CBS.log. Makes sense.....

Thanks :)

Richard
