Mozilla sent Firefox Version 57.0 to the release channel today. The update includes four (4) security updates, 1 Critical, 1 High, 1 Moderate and 1 Low.

As of this posting, Firefox ESR remains at version 52.4.0. Update: Firefox ESR version 52.5 has been released.

With this release, "legacy" add-ons (XUL-based) will no longer function. This update changes the add-ons system to the WebExtensions API. The Mozilla Add-ons portal will list only WebExtensions-compatible add-ons by default. Legacy Extensions are listed separately located under Tools > Add-ons. From there click "Find a Replacement"and check the three pages of available extensions.

In addition, this update introduces the new Quantum engine (Firefox Quantum) which is replacing parts of parts of the familiar old Gecko engine.

As many of you realize there are many programs both proprietary and popular that use Internet Explorer or your "default browser" to display the program. Intuit QuickBooks is a good example of this. I had a client whose computer would freeze if running everytime they opened QuickBooks causing them to have to hard restart and then the program worked. After wasting much time cleaning and optimizing the system a light dawned and I realized that the new Firefox 57 was the culprit as this system used Firefox as their default browser and a simple re-step to version 56 and shutting down update caused the problem to end. Of course I don't like staying there forever as security becomes an issue so I reluctantly turned to IE as the default browser for them which they don't like either. My concerns are that IE really does not run properly anymore in Windows 10 obviously the reason for Edge unstated with freez ups often ocurring on many sites in my experience. The good news is this system is on Windows 7 so it is "band aided" for now anyway.

You know I tried that when they first ended java and for the life of me I don't remember why I uninstalled it but this would work for that client, thanks.
I personally use Waterfox because they have vowed to keep up Java and Adobe Flash Player both of which my brokerage site won't run without
and I could use that as well. I ran Pale Moon for quite a while but finally noticed it is not as quick as Firefox or Waterfox and had freeze problems
with a few sites I regularly go to.
