Mozilla sent Firefox Version 30.0 to the release channel. The update includes five (5) Critical and two (2) High security updates.

Unfortunately, the issue introduced with version 29.1 that many users have experienced with slow shut downs resulting in the "Firefox is already running" warning remains unresolved.

To get the update now, select "Help" from the Firefox menu at the upper left of the browser window, then pick "About Firefox."

Additional information about the update is available in my blog post at Mozilla Firefox Version 30.0 Released.

Wow, version 30.0 already. I understand they recently (well, a few years ago) changed their versioning system. I wonder if we'll see another change soon given the version #, or if they'll just keep going.

In any case, the only bug I've had with FF lately is if I download something, Windows 8 notifies me that I cannot move the file, etc, from its Downloads directory as it's already in-use. This does not go away until I close Firefox, even if I clear completed downloads within FF. This may be similar to the already running message you mentioned.

That 'feels' like a security software could still be checking it (heuristics/guesswork, Cloud/Crowd, blah blah), do you get the same response, say 15 minutes after the download has completed?

You know, that's a really good thought. I never considered Windows Defender could be causing that.

I'll need to look into it next time it happens.
