I'm having a similar issue as the one posted here. For some odd reason, each time I startup the computer, I popup screen appears asking me what program I want to use to open a particular file. I've opened it with notepad, and I get a long string of CBS.log strings each ending in "Beginning Verify and Repair...Verify complete."

Here's the exact info that appears in one of the roughly two dozen lines that appear in the log:
"C:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log:2012-02-18 10:46:25, Info CSI 00000009 [SR] Verifying 100 (0x0000000000000064) componentsC:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log:2012-02-18 10:46:25, Info CSI 0000000a [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
C:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log:2012-02-18 10:46:26, Info CSI 0000000c [SR] Verify complete"

Any ideas as to how I can get rid of this annoying message and log generation at each startup?

Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Hello finkkatz and welcome to Sysnative!

I hope you don't mind, but I have moved your post into a thread of its own so that the advice given can be specific to you and things are kept nice and tidy. To avoid confusion, I have included a link to the original thread in your first post if people want to know what thread you were referencing.

Could you post your CBS log please:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

Thanks Tom for directing my inquiry to a better place. Didn't mean to mess up the order of things. I'm attaching the CBS zipped log file as you directed.

Hello finkkatz,

It's no problem whatsoever and you certainly didn't mess up the order of things.

Thanks for uploading the logs for me. I have had a look through your CBS log and am concerned about the number of manifest errors that you're getting. I would like you to download and run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) please:

What is the System Update Readiness Tool?

Your logs show that you have run this in the past, back in 2012, but with a version of the SURT that is now outdated so if you still have that file, please don't use it and instead, download a new one from the above link.

When it finishes installing, attach the log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thanks Tom! I've done what you suggested and now have attached the requested log.View attachment CheckSUR.persist.zip

Not sure if what you suggested was supposed to resolve the problem, but I'm still getting the CBS log issue on restart

Hello :)

On the CBS log issue, its probably because its been copied into startup somewhere (probably a startup folder). Please right click on this link > Save (Target) As: http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent Runners.vbs

then run the downloaded script and post the log. It lists all startups, and will hopefully help us to hone in on exactly where this CBS log is starting from.

Thank you!

Richard

Hi Richard,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I saved your txt file on my desktop and tried to run it but it's not an exe file so the run command doesn't get it to run. I'm sure anyone with a little more knowledge of what you're asking me to do wouldn't have this issue, but can you tell me how exactly I run the file once downloaded?

Thanks1
