Work has continued regularly since Microsoft announced adopting the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge. There are daily "canary" builds as well as weekly Dev builds. Testing was opened to Mac as well as Windows 7. Announced today is the release of the first Beta version which will be updated every six weeks: Microsoft Edge Insider.

Just installed the beta build and it looks quite nice, prefer it already to the release build of Edge.

Microsoft Edge Beta has received its first update to Build 78.0.276.8 and will be automatically updated.

The update includes tracking prevention enabled by default. Tracking prevention is designed to protect you from being tracked by websites that you aren’t accessing directly, giving you more control over your online data. You can choose from three different settings and customize based on your preference.

Dev channel update to 79.0.287.2 is live

In addition to many fixes, this build includes two long-awaited features: media autoplay blocking, and a more customizable new tab page! The media autoplay blocking setting under edge://settings/content/mediaAutoplay. Other new features include the following:
  • Re-added a prompt to enable Windows location settings if a site requests location permissions but OS-level location settings are disabled.
  • Enabled changing font size in Reading View.
  • Added middle click support to Collections items.
  • Added a tooltip to long Collection titles.
  • Added error messaging for when another program is preventing Edge from installing an update.
  • Added a policy to control the Renderer Code Integrity feature (see Aw, snap! What if Every Tab Crashes?).

Microsoft Edge Beta has been updated to Version 79.0.309.11. The update includes improvements and fixes from the Canary and Dev builds including updates to tracking protection, the PDF reader and new tab page.

Although there will be additional fixes, Version 79 is the final beta before the general availability of the new Microsoft Edge which is expected to be launched January 20 15, 2020.

Edge Beta has received two small updates since Monday. Yesterday, it was updated to Build 79.0.309.12 which included the new icon/logos. Today's update to 79.0.309.14 was to address the caching issues of the new icons.

Microsoft Edge Beta was updated to Version 80.0.361.32. As indicated in the thread on the Dev version, the Betal version will continue to be updated every 6 weeks.
