An email at work says that McAfee Definition Update causes a loss of connectivity.
Here's the McAfee KB: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101446
As such, they won't be able to download the "fix".
Work's suggested fix is to run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool - then download and install the latest McAfee version from the McAfee website. MCPR.exe is here: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
McAfee KB on the tool: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=CS41013
My suggestion is to run the MCPR tool and then install Microsoft Security Essentials (and make sure that the Windows Firewall is on).
