Hi,

As we are all well aware, Malwarebytes has discontinued their lifetime subscriptions. I have a PC that does not have Malwarebytes and would like it to have it now thanks to Malwarebytes 3.0. I would like a lifetime subscription as it's cheaper in the long run. Many sellers out there are still selling lifetime keys. From the ad below, does anybody see any problems with buying this?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro v3.0 Premium - Lifetime License - Genuine!

Thanks.

I guess my problem is right from the start, the wording is wrong. There is no such thing as "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro V3.0 Premium". If they were an authorized reseller as they claim, I would think they would get the name right.

I think I would contact Malwarebytes and ask them if legit.

Wording like doesn't worry me. It's an eBay seller trying to get more tags in the title. Also, I feel like if I contact Malwarebytes I'll be spun around their sales department by them saying "It's not a authorized reseller" and leave me at that without a truthful answer.

Malwarebytes switched to subscription with version 2.0 (Announcement: Introducing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0!). As Digerati said, there are no lifetime licenses for 3.0. For a while after the release of version 2.0 there were some leftover lifetime licenses from third parties. They were sold in boxed sets that came with a CD and an activation code on a sticker or piece of paper included in the box. IF this is leftover from before 2.0 was released and comes in a sealed box then it is likely legit. However, if not, don't count on it and be sure there is a guaranteed return if it isn't legitimate.

Even though there's no lifetime licences for Malwarebytes 3.0, lifetime licences from Malwarebytes 1.x will work on 2.x and 3.x so :P

I have 5 lifetime Malwarebytes licenses. I'm currently using all 5 (four Win 7 and an XP that rarely goes on the internet).

As I e-cycle computers, I move the licenses to a different computer.

My advice: choose the computer that is least used and install the free version on it. If it has a lifetime license, move that to a harder working computer. At least it will have some protection after 2 weeks

Aura's comment explains what I've been thinking. Since a Malwarebytes Lifetime key is lifetime, it should therefore be valid for Malwarebytes 3.0, even if it's for 1.x or 2.x. There are returns, but shipping back to the UK would be a little pricey. In the end, the seller does have good feedback.

The lifetime licences were discontinued with Malwarebytes 2.0, though it has been confirmed that some resellers still have them and they can be used to resell. I think you can contact legal@malwarebytes.com to make sure the reseller you're buying from have legitimate lifetime licences.

I agree with that. But that eBay seller is not selling 2.0. He is selling V3.05. That suggests to me that either it is NOT V3.05, or the seller has modified the code. Neither scenario seems kosher to me and the EULA specifically says in section 2 (d) General, the software cannot be modified, decompiled, disassembled, or reverse engineered. Now I realize that is for the end user and the eBay seller is not the end user, but still... .

Also suspicious to me is the name and logo displayed on that eBay page. No where in my installation of MB3.x or on the official Malwarebytes website is the logo 2-tone blue with a 3/4 white circle in the middle. In fact, it is more like the shape of batwings and either solid blue or solid white. The logo on the eBay page is a different shape.

No where in my MB3.x control panel or on the official Malwarebytes website do I see "Malwarebytes" in two colors (white and blue). In the control panel and the site, when the name is displayed as an image, it is either all white, or all blue, with Malware in bold.

I realize none of that is conclusive, but none of that gives me any confidence this is a genuine, legal product either.

This is because lifetime licences for Malwarebytes are still working on Malwarebytes 3.0, but a lot of people probably don't know that. So a customer is more likely to buy a lifetime licence for Malwarebytes 3.0 than 2.0.

And I can't see the offer as I'm at work and eBay is blocked :(

I think you are making a pretty big assumption. I guess you're an optimist and I'm a pessimist - at least when it comes to eBay. I truly hope you are right and at the very least, the product has not been maliciously modified.

Well, if by product you mean program, he can always download it straight from Malwarebytes website and install it (that's what I would do). You would only buy the box to get the product key :P

It's not like he sent me a download to MBAM. What I did was downloaded a Trial version of MBAM and activated it through the trial, the key is emailed to you. Like Xilolee said, there are signs of reliability and in the end it is activated by MBAM themselves.
