So while I was digging through some files, I found this:

Back in the day when I had 6 hard drives stuffed into a computer designed for 3.

But as I sit back, I realize that, now days most computers have one hard drive and maybe an external or an SSD and one hard drive.

And I've also noticed that people are stepping down from space hogging super computers, down to modest middle of the road computers.

And after much thought I'm happy with my new design for my new computer. (128GB SSD and 500GB hard drive, with my 1TB external)

We are also building a network based backup computer, it'll run windows so it can be used as a desktop, it'll have two 1TB hard drives and one 500GB. (Why a 500GB on an OS drive?) Because, I'll still use it for miscellaneous computing, and have some programs like firefox, an office suite and some other programs installed on it.

I remember when I replaced my Windows 95 with a shiny new XP box that had a 4GB hard drive. I couldn't believe it -- 4GB, wow! I thought that would be it. I'd never need more than a 4GB hard drive. :thud:

Lol Yea I hear you there. I remember when the original hard drive 40GB in our HP desktop failed and I was with my parents at a bestbuy and we got an 80GB drive, as a kid you're like 80GB wow you'll run out of room.

80GB is tiny now days, hard to run by 120GB, 140GB, 160GB or 250GB any more.

I'd never need more than a 4GB hard drive.
I must be real old. I remember thinking my 10Mb (yes, Megabyte) Seagate ST-412 was "more than I will ever need" because it would hold the same amount of data as more than 100 170Kb 5.25 inch floppies. It cost me nearly $1000 in the early 80s, and my first marriage.

In 1993, I bought my one and only factory-made "IBM clone" PC, a Gateway 33MHz 486DX. It came with an "upgraded" 40Mb drive, which again, was more than I will ever need. I also opted for a RAM upgrade, quadrupling the stock 8Mb to a whopping, more than I will ever need, 32Mb of RAM. And I upgraded to the monstrous, bigger than I will ever need, 15" "color" monitor and a graphics card with more graphics RAM (1Mb) than I will ever need too. All for the nice low price of $2570.
