My laptop connects to the internet and is able to browse but programs & apps acts like they are not connected to the internet, examples like OneDrive is stuck on signing in, Sticky Notes can not detect internet, Can not use Windows Update, Weather says there is no internet, can not use search bar etc...an example image

It wasn't always like this, when I troubleshoot I get "Windows can't automatically detect this network's settings" and sometimes instead of signals I see "Connected but No Internet, secured"

I appreciate it if I can get help figuring this out so I can use my laptop normally!

I would like to update

I connected to someone else's internet and restarted my laptop, several times and it was consistently normal with the programs detecting internet

Does this mean there is a conflict with my network and my laptop even though others devices are fine?

Sorry, it's a model/router provided by the ISP

Google solutions and various responses from other thread

I did find out that when I switch network, it's fine, so I think it's just my personal network and my laptop, even though other devices are fine

I ran a program that tests network and it says there is no public ip on my laptop

No need to apologize, it's all good. I simply want to make sure I understand so I can help in the most efficient way possible. Our goal at Sysnative, is to get you back to a happy, problem free computer user.

Reboot the router please. Unplug it, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in.

Then, once it's back up and running and verified connected, try it and let me know.

I tried this and restarting my laptop several times, I even hard reset the modem today, the problem still persists

You take this laptop to another network like a library or coffee shop or friends and it works fine? Other devices work fine on the personal network?

Did you mess with any settings in Windows Security/Defender?

Hit start, type windows security and click it to open it in the left pane that pops up. choose App and Browser control. Inside there you'll see Reputation Based Browsing, Isolated Browsing and Exploit Protection, in each of these modules are settings that can cause what you describe. Try turning one at a time off and see if it helps.

Let us know.

Yes it works fine, the upstairs tenants have their own internet and I would borrow it to test it out, consistently fine and internet detected by the apps

With that being said do you think I should still check windows security/defender?

I see something a little different from what you listen, a picture of my desktop version of the settings

The laptop (device in question) doesn't have isolated browsing

Under the isolated browsing and exploit protection, check the settings there.

Hit start and type winver then hit enter, what version Windows does it show?

Laptop doesn't have isolated browsing but exploit protection has a bunch of options that sounds risky to turn off

Windows 10 Home, version 1909, installed on 2/13/2020, OS build 18363.836

Looks like you're receiving help here: Laptop connected to Wi-Fi, can only browse but programs do not detect internet - Networking

It's not advisable to switch from forum to forum as it causes confusion as to what fixes you've implemented and what advice has been given. We also like to leave a post with a fix so others that have the same issue as you, may search for and benefit from it too.

If you get it solved, please share with us the fix as well.

We welcome any feedback you may have.

I understand your concerns about the risk, it'd be risky to leave them off not turn them off for testing purposes. If you do not feel comfortable that's fine.

I thought of this too. Not exactly the same but similar.

[SOLVED] - Windows 10 internet icon showing no internet but internet works (Solved)

I tried the regedit solution, still no changes, can connect to internet, browse, but apps don't detect

I am trying as much solutions as I can to understand this problem, I would be able to tell you what I already tried and willing to do it again upon feedback

Still stuck at square 1

one thing I would like to add, when my laptop restarts or powers on, if I can open an program (example microsoft store) right away, like within 5 seconds of logging in instantly, I can see the program has access to internet before it cuts off

It may be related.

If it doesn't work, open an elevated command prompt and type netsh interface ip delete arpcache

Then enter, reboot see if that helps at all.

It did not, maybe it is a problem with the cable or modem, since I can use other wi-fi fine?

It's very possible there is a problem with the modem but the fact that other units are working fine rules that out.

Did you do this?

run regedit
and go to this key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet]

then look at the key named

"EnableActiveProbing"

look for this value, if is 0 make it 1 and reboot

If it is 1 change to 0, reboot then change to 1 and reboot
