Hi. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 because of this problem and thought that would fix it. After a few days my computer would freeze with a loud sound coming through the speakers and then restart automatically after. The event viewer lists Kernel-Power event ID 41. This is also a brand new computer I built.

What brand and model memory are you using? Try running with only one stick.

It appears this board can be incredibly picky about memory timings; it may pass memtest but reboot randomly.

Pardon my butting in here, but I received a PM asking me to have a look at this.

FYI - I do not troubleshoot crash dump initialization problems - for 2 reasons:
1) They are incredibly complex (see this draft that I wrote: BSOD Crash Dump Generation )
2) Usually, when fixing the memory dump problems we (inadvertantly) end up fixing the memory dump collection problem

Please start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
If you can't boot to a CD/DVD, then post back for further suggestions.
Of particular importance here are the malware scans - as there are errors in launching your cryptographic service.
Should the system be infected, please post over in the Am I Infected forum for more expert assistance in removing the infections.

Let's also have a look at this report (it helps in seeing patterns associated with the shutdowns):
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2
Please let us know if you're shutting the system down by holding in the power button (as that will cause Event ID 41 errors).
Also, the only failure of a crash dump that I see in the System log file occurred on 31 May. I presume that you have had more of these since then (and that they aren't showing up in the System log file)

I don't see BSOD's in the WER section of MSINFO32. If they are occurring, they are happening at a very limited time when Windows has started to boot up, but the crash dump initialization stuff hasn't finished loading. Patterns/info in the Admin Event Viewer log may help in pinning this down.

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

You have 5 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Please don't use CCleaner while we're troubleshooting - it destroys a lot of the reports that we use.

Disable Fast Startup:
- press the Win and the X keys at the same time
- select Power Options
- select (on the left sidebar) Choose what the power button does
- scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck "Turn of fast startup"
- click on "Save changes" and exit the dialogs.
- test for further problems
