Hello,

I have tried many things but I finally gave up on this one and I would like to ask for help. I will attach the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in 7z compressed format with ZIP file extension, and here's output from SFCFix.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me to fix this issue. Thank you very much!

Hello and welcome,

Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.

  1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
  4. Attach this log in your next reply.

Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

Hello PeterJ, Thank you very much for instruction. I have done running SURT. And I have attached log file, but size of regular ZIP file was too big to attache. So that I had to use 7zip's Z compression. Please change file extension from ZIP to 7z to uncompress. Thank you.

Please read the instructions carefully. You have attached the same log file as in message #1.
Attach the log file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log, see step 3 in message #2.

Follow the instructions below please.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Close the file and attach it to your next reply.

PeterJ,

Thank you very much. But when I did it it gave me an error and did not complete. Would you please take a look at below which I copied from Notepad? I was saying Zip file was corrupted. I tried at my Desktop and other directory, but same result. I have tried downloading same file with Chrome and Firefox, but still the same. Thank you.

Using .zip script file at D:\1\SFCFix.zip [7]
Start with moving the file SFCFix.exe to your desktop, which is the folder C:\Users\<username>\Desktop.
Next, download the file SFCFix.zip again and save or move it also to your desktop. Don't extract it.
Do not create shortcuts for both files on your desktop.

Try to perform the instructions in message #6 again.
If it fails with an error message, take a screenshot. Read this on how to take a screenshot.
Upload the image file to a file-sharing site such as Filedropper or SendSpace and post the downloadlink.

Hello, since on my Desktop directory did not work that was the reason I tried other directory. Anyway, here's screenshot from Desktop.

One is result of drag-and-drop, and the other one is from command line. Because this PC has IME installed and it has different codepage than 437. And I can set codepage 437 in command line to execute.

Please help me! Thank you.

Because this PC has IME installed
What is IME ?
Are you able to open other .ZIP files ?
Do you have software installed to zip/unzip .ZIP files ? If so, which software is that ?
Which brand of antivirus program do you have installed ?

Please help me! Thank you.
No worries.

Hello PeterJ, IME is Windows' Input Method Editor. A way to type/input non-ASCII characters.

Anyway, thank you for the reply. I just realize Windows' compression function/feature is not available. I have 7zip version 16.04 which is about 2 years old. I will try to fix this Windows file compression issue, and I will update later.

Thank you again.

There's no need to 'fix' that. I was just asking.
Please answer the other questions too.

Hello PeterJ, Thank you for reply.
Yes, I can open any ZIP files with 7-zip but not with Windows Explorer. I have updated 7-zip to version 18.06. And I have Malwarebyte Premium version 3.6.1.

Anyway, I went ahead and uncompressed the files and SURT result became clean.

But I still have original problem updating Windows. And I found a message on MS Community saying this KB2952664 is not required/crucial. So I hid this one. But the last month roll up KB4471318 is giving me same error.
Please help!

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.

Unfortunately the log file is useless.
Please zip the files CbsPersist_<datetime>.cab in the folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and attach it to your next reply.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.

Please do following:

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Server Manager dialog.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
5. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

6. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste KB4093118 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Please read the instructions carefully. I don't deed the 2 files you posted.
