I was sent here from from overclock.net forums. Hopefully you can help me out. It would make my day because at the moment I'm totally stumped.
Here's the story...
I'm overclocking my new i5 3570k. I've performed lots of tests by tweaking various settings in the bios. I use Prime95 for my tests. 4.4GHz seems to be stable. When I bump it up to 4.5GHz, I get a BSOD saying I need to increase the voltage. No problem; I go ahead and increase it. After some increases, I start to get WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (0x124) BSOD. As I keep increase, the time between starting the test and a 124 BSOD becomes shorter and shorter. There's basically no stable voltage that can hold 4.5GHz. It's quite annoying because I'm running a water cooled rig specifically for OCing and am nowhere near hitting my temperature wall.
I've done a 9h memtest without a single error.
As required, here are my system specs:
· OS - Windows 8 Pro
· x64
· What was original installed OS on system? Windows 8 Pro
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? Full Retail Version
· Age of system (hardware) - 2 weeks old
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? 2 weeks old. Fresh install.
· CPU - Intel i5 3570k
· Video Card - EVGA Geforce GTX 670
· MotherBoard - ASRock z77 Extreme4
· Power Supply - brand & wattage (if laptop, skip this one) - Corsair AX860i 860W PSU
· System Manufacturer - N/A
· Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) - N/A
