Iv right clicked on all the files so they play with VLC player but when you click play all it uses the windows media player

Determine the file extensions of the files that you are attempting to play and make a note (mp3, wma, etc.,)
Open VLC Player and from the menu bar select tools -> Preferences
Select the Interface Icon in the left column and then the "Set up associations..." button near the bottom right.
That should launch the Windows "Set Program Associations" window
Scroll as needed and place checks appropriately.

You're very welcome and thank you.
Glad to hear that you were able to resolve your issue and thanks for posting back and letting us know.

Hi -

Make sure a system restore point is created first.

Bring up an elevated Admin CMD prompt -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd above under "Programs" | select "Run as Administrator" | "create a restore point"

Next, turn Windows Media Features OFF -
START | type OptionalFeatures.exe | uncheck box for "Media Features" | Reboot

Uninstall VLC with Revo Free edition. Select 4th option on 1st screen.

Reinstall VLC - http://freedownloads.us.com/download/1/vlc/index3.php?pk=410379&s=google&c=c1

Now it want even play with the windows media player how do i set it back to the windows player so something works

Start -> Type Optionalfeatures.exe

Re-tick the box you marked off above.
As for the actual solution, I tried looking around via google and found no answers.

The problem is the button you are clicking is inside the windows shell and therefore might have to be controlled by the registry.

I poked around for a bit but didn't find anything. I will keep looking if no one can come up with anything

An update for you.

Got things working correctly through registry edits but its far to messy and inconsistent due to all the folder types.

I was however able to get it working by setting the default program to VLC.

You can follow these or the directions in post #3

Start -> Type Default Programs -> Set Your Default Programs -> Select VLC media player -> Choose defaults for this program -> Select All or scroll and select as needed

Then click save

You might need to restart (I did not)

Not sure why it wasn't working for you... If it does end up working you can just disable WMP by following post #9
