The Dark Side!
Hi, after many years of fixes, patches and service pack failures I have made the big mistake of upgrading to W8.1, this took my super fast brand new desk top back to the dark ages and beyond.:banghead:

As a mild mannered wrong side of 50 fairly knowledgeable PC user I am now on the cusp of committing an act of violence against my monitor! The frustration at lack of support from Microsoft is beyond belief so I have spent many a fruitless hour trawling the information super highway for answers.:hysterical:

And now I have arrived here, after reviewing some of the excellent solutions that have been provided I believe I have found the Nirvana of Windows solutions! Please allow me entry to this fellowship of like minded souls, I may be an infrequent visitor passing by but I will cherish every crumb of advice I receive or use.:thumbsup2:

Welcome to Sysnative, jossman!

This is one of the best into topics I've seen here and I hope that we can live up to your expectations!

Tom

Tom,

Thank you for the welcome, I learnt a long time ago that using my real personality can be quite helpful, mind you it does tend to also get me into difficulties at board meetings, so I have to present a false face of seriousness.

Nice to be here and no doubt the Windows elves are already busy at work examining my second post and mixing up a majick solution to my problem!

A warm welcome to Sysnative forums! It's great to have you here, hopefully we can get you up and running again soon! :D

I would like to extend my most sincere thanks for the warm and friendly welcome you have all (those who have posted), shown me. It is heartening to find such old style consideration in this world of the 'Lone Gunmen', (see I know things, I watch the X Files!). Anyway my PC has been behaving itself and is being unusually compliant, must know that I'm putting it in for more RAM and a second solid state drive when I go on my Jollies. Yes, sunny Florida where you can buy bullets and groceries in the same shop with no ID, not that I have need of groceries.

Useful tip to survive the Zombie apocalypse, buy a boat, they can't swim and don't float!:thumbsup2:

From what I've seen, jossman, there aren't many of us who use that spelling. Does she have the same problems with people mispronouncing it too? I was named after my Irish grandmother so use the pronunciation Corr-een (not Corr-in).

I'm used to saying Corr-een, but here in Atlantic Canada there are many who pronounce it Corr-in. Most I come across are understanding if I say it incorrectly.
I find that with my last name, many want to stick a 'c' in there as well. My wife's name is Diane and she gets Dianne, Diana, etc all the time. Can't go wrong with a name like James!

James, my wifes christian name is Christina, we have been married 35 years and generally I call her Chris and she calls me steve (Thats my real name), so you would assume that after all this time my family would have got used to her, but no! Some of them still call her Christine!

I always pronounce it as Corr-een.
