Bill Gates’s first day at work in the newly created role of technology adviser got off to a rocky start yesterday as the Microsoft founder struggled for hours to install the Windows 8.1 upgrade. The installation hit a snag early on, sources said, when Mr. Gates repeatedly received an error message informing him that his PC ran into a problem that it could not handle and needed to restart.
After failing to install the upgrade by lunchtime, Mr. Gates summoned the new Microsoft C.E.O. Satya Nadella, who attempted to help him with the installation, but with no success.

Quick, to the escalation engineers! :grin1:

On a serious note, it mentions upgrade, therefore his upgrade from to 7 > 8 and/or 8.1, he likely had something that was not complying with the upgrade, or wasn't compatible. The most common in these situations is an antivirus, which you should always uninstall before performing an upgrade. Although this was a problem attempting to be tackled by two obviously very well-versed gentlemen, even the smartest people can overlook the simplest things.

Edit: I stood in the shower and thought to myself there's a 99% chance this is satirical.
