After a relatively short public beta period, Adobe has updated Flash and Air for most users today.
The new version of Flash Player, 11.3, allows for keyboard input when in fullscreen and reduces audio latency.
It also improves security for Mac and Firefox users by offering automatic updates to the former and sandboxing to the latter.
Adobe would also like to point out that it will be compatible with Gatekeeper in OS X Mountain Lion.
The new version of Air is primarily beneficial to developers, who can now use the platform to more easily target iOS 5.1 and the iPad's Retina Display.
Adobe says it should also work better on Android now, throttling "resource usage when games or applications are in the background."

Both are available for Windows and Mac (sorry Linux users) right now.

Critical Security Fixes for Adobe Flash Player

Adobe has released a critical update to its Flash Player software that fixes at least seven security vulnerabilities in the program. The new version also extends sandboxing protection to Mac OS X users browsing the Web with Mozilla Firefox.

The update, Flash Player 11.3, plugs at least seven security holes in Flash Player and Adobe Air. The company warns that attackers could use these flaws to crash the applications and seize control over unpatched systems. Flash updates are available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android systems. Adobe AIR patches are available for Windows, Mac and Android platforms. See the chart below for the latest, patched versions numbers for each platform.

Note that beginning with Adobe Flash Version 11.3, the universal 32-bit installer includes the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Flash Player. Additionally, the separate 32-bit and 64-bit uninstallers have been replaced with a single uninstaller.

Three security improvements were included in the release of Flash Player 11.3. From the ASSET Blog, linked below:

  • Flash Player Protected Mode (“sandboxing”) is now available for Firefox users on Windows. (See Note below)
  • For Mac users, this release will include the background updater for Mac OS X.
  • This release and all future Flash Player releases for Mac OS X will be signed with an Apple Developer ID, so that Flash Player can work with the new Gatekeeper technology for Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8).

Note to Windows XP users, from Flash Player 11.3 delivers additional security capabilities for Mac and Firefox users

"Today, with Windows 8 just around the corner and Windows XP usage rapidly decreasing, it did not make sense for the Flash Player team to make that same engineering investment for Windows XP. Therefore, we’ve focused on making Protected Mode for Firefox available on Windows Vista and later".
