Anybody else having an issue with FF 29, after closing FF and I close my lid on laptop (this is Samsung quick start state), then come back some time later open up lid to laptop, it loads up in less then 3 seconds, click to open FF and I get error message "FF is still running". This only happens every now and then but when it does I have to open up task-manager and find it in there and click end task. Then I can relaunch FF.

Is this some sort of glitch with FF 29 because I see others with the same problem doing a quick Google search but there's no definite fix, only suggested fix that may work for some and not for others.

I just found this....

I used to have the Firefox is still running error message, when Firefox used to crash and then close. I would start Firefox again a few seconds later, and get the error message. It was usually because the previous Firefox process hadn't terminated itself properly, and could be found in Task Manager.

Have you tried getting a trace with Process Monitor?

Yeah...I have to keep opening task manager to close it down. No I haven't tried getting a trace with process monitor. Is this some software I need, I've never heard of it.

I've experienced this on my old laptop - never with any recent version of FF but with older version (<20).

Try using FF without any addons (hold down shift as you open FF) and see if it happens.

If not, try reinstalling Firefox with a clean profile and see if it happens still.

Apparently it is a known issue and carried over with the version 29.0.1 update released today. From the Release Notes:

  • unresolved Slow shut downs lead to 'Firefox is already running' warning (see 966469 and 985655)

The same Release Notes show a link to security updates but no updates have been posted for the release, just a handful of fixes listed at the top of the above-lined page.

Thanks for the heads up.....and that really sucks. I hope they fix it soon as it's freaking annoying as hell now.

I haven't had this issue in a long time. I used to have it constantly with old FF versions, in addition to CONSTANT memory leaking. I haven't had FF memory leak in a very long time, and I am ecstatic over that as that was my biggest gripe.

Have you created a new FF profile?

I used to get this issue a lot with users running Firefox. Cresting a new profile used to fix that one up.
