Good morning everyone!

Here is a list of actions I've taken so far:

  • Changed RAM XMP to profile 1 (optimal), then 2 (sub optimal), and now XMP off.
  • Changed my CPU from the default AI overclock, to base clock.
  • Replaced the motherboard battery.
  • Completely reset my BIOS.
  • Completely replaced my RAM kit.
  • Completely replaced my PSU unit.
  • RAM tests (specially mem86+) for hours until I did multiple passes. No errors found.
  • Disconnected my GPU and reseated it on the same slot, then switched it to another slot, then completely removed it and used the integrated video card.
  • Replaced and upgraded my thermal paste.
  • Air cleaned my entire rig.
  • Stress tested my CPU. For around 2 hours.
  • Stress tested my GPU. For around 2 hours.
  • Stress tested my CPU and GPU at the same time, to see if the motherboard had issues. This lasted around an hour or two.
  • Removed boot drive and fresh installed windows to my secondary drive.
  • Reinstalled my boot drive and recovered my secondary drive.
  • Ran multiple virus and anti malware apps.
  • Ran multiple diagnosis and stress tools.
  • Currently running the latest version of Win10PRO 20H2 with up-to-date updates.
  • Currently running the best drivers for all my hardware.
  • I have refreshed my windows install multiple times.
  • Ran multiple sfc /scannow (finding issues only after several freezes).
  • Payed closed attention to Windows Security and Maintenance. It's a dead end.
  • Fresh installed a previous version of windows 10.
  • Using windows 10 pro 1903 (OS Build 18362.30).
  • Replaced my SATA cables.
  • I took extra measures. Installed a firewall. Blocking all windows updates.
  • Stumbled upon sysnative's App (SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe)
  • Downgraded windows form Win10Pro(20H2) to Win10Pro(1903)
I know you have some questions, for example:
I'm completely out of leads and I can already see my Event Viewer going Haywire. Saying stuff like: Kernel-Power / volmgr / Unexpected shutdown / failed to create dump file. All the stuff I'm now used to seeing right before the system becomes unstable, freezes, reboots, and presents various BSOD. I'm completely out of my wits here... my saving hope is when I stumbled upon your forum while searching some Event errors. Hopefully You guys can help me figure this one out.

At the moment, I have a firewall blocking almost everything + I'm not allowing windows to update + I'm not installing any drivers... just waiting for the random freezes / restarts / BSOD's to run amok once again.

Please help.

Sorry I have to post it this way, but since the crashes / freezes / BSOD are random... I need to do it this way so that I don't lose all the information.

  1. Desktop, self built.
  2. Win10PRO 1903 (OS Build 18362.30).
  3. 64bit
  4. Win10PRO originally installed, got it when Microsoft was giving the free upgrade.
  5. This machine is around 3-5 years.
  6. Fresh win10 install.
  7. I've reinstalled the OS / refreshed the OS around 10-20 times in the past 2-3 months.
  8. Kaby Lake, i7 7700k
  9. ADATA - XPG EPS DDR4 D60G RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz PC4-28800 CL14-15-15 U-DIMM Desktop Memory Kit, Grey (AX4U360038G14C-DT60)
  10. Nvidia GeForce 1080 Strix (not ti)
  11. Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  12. EVGA P2 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  13. If I run 'verifier' it opens up, so I guess it's enabled? Idk, whatever is default since it's a fresh install.
  14. simplewall firewall. I'm blocking windows update until I get some tech support.
  15. No proxies, vpn. I can use uBlock Origin on Chrome, but it's disabled for now.
  16. No Disk Image tools.
  17. Fully resetted my CMOS / BIOS by removing, waiting, and replacing the battery. Everything is stock / default configuration. Nothing is overlocked. Nothing is underclocked... well, except maybe the RAM... it should run at 3500, but since XMP profiles are disabled it's running at 2600 (whatever is the default for DDR4).

Is your page file set to system managed?

Did it correct them? Do you still have the CBS log?

@XBlueRobot, I think all the issues we see are secondary. I think I have a hardware issue with my MOBO that's resetting my PC and making it crash randomly. So when things freeze / reset abruptly I see some error logs, some corrupted files, etc. That's just my impression as a newbie. Feel free to steer me off this direction if I've made a mistake or anything. After all I'm throwing everything... even the kitchen sink at this issue.

UPDATE - 2021.3.4 @ 9:22AM
---------------------------------------------
I made a partition, ran linux (Pop!OS) for a couple of hours and my system crashed. I'm starting to think this is hardware. I think I can safely rule out GPU, CPU, RAM, bad SATA cables, and PSU. That leaves me with a hardware issue with my motherboard. I'm looking online how to check for hardware issues before I completely disassemble my machine to physically inspect it. People keep mentioning that I should check for 'faulting' / 'short circuit', so I'll google that as well to see if I can solve this issue. My last resort will be to buy a new MOBO/CPU combo or just leave with a shit system until it blows up.

If you guys have some guides / links ... just anything to help me troubleshoot hardware issues with the MOBO I will greatly appreciate it.

If it crashes with Linux, then it probably is most likely a hardware issue. I run with as little as hardware as possible. For example, use one RAM stick, only use the HDD/SSD which has Windows installed and remove your graphics card as well if the motherboard has an integrated graphics chip.

Hey, I took your advice. Kind of... let me explain.

  • Removed GPU
  • Removed 1 Ram stick, moved the remaining ram stick to DIMM slot 1.
  • On Pop!Os, stress tested my CPU + streamed a 4K movie for around 1:40m. No crashes.
  • Removed all the panels.
  • Examined the mother and I found a lose screw on top of my MOBO! It would be right below the GPU and near the back side! :O
  • Plugged the GPU back in.
  • On Pop!Os, stress tested my CPU + streamed a 4K movie for around 1:30m. No crashes.
  • Went back to Windows.
  • CPUZ showed some interesting data. My RAM stick for the first time is being recognized as it should (3600Mhz, 14 CAS Latency, 1.450 volts)
  • I'm still testing the machine under windows.
I'm thinking it could be that screw I found and/or something wrong with the motherboard specifically something wrong with the DIMM slots. Specifically something wrong with the MOBO that makes my computer unstable if I use 2 ram sticks at the recommended positions (1&3). Idk. At this point I'm willing to test anything.

:ROFLMAO: my PC might be needing an exorcist.

I've been running windows since yesterday with only 1 RAM stick with zero issues. My guess? It's something to do with using 2 ram sticks. I'll finish testing today and tomorrow I will reintroduce the second ram stick, but on DIMM slot 2. So I will have DIMM 1 and 2 occupied. This is not what the manufacturer recommends (1 & 3), but I want to try to see what happens. If nothing happens I will try 1&3 and 2&4.

... and I'm back.

The entire day it worked flawlessly. Or so I thought. I annexed the event viewer log. It's going haywire. This is tough man. I'm out of ideas and the saddest part? When I built this machine my motherboard was worth ~200 USD. Now it's 'worth' around 1,000 USD. Thanks to the silicone shortage + covid + bitcoin miners.

UPDATE - 2021.3.18
-------------------------------------
  • Got a new MOBO+CPU combo (i7-7700k --> i9 10850K) (Z270E --> Z490A)
  • Zero crashes, random freezing, BSOD.
  • I am seeing quite a few events, but I think they are not consequential (do correct me if I'm wrong and if I have to fix something... specially those COM warnings)
