I ran the scan and corrupt files were found but not fixed. I saw another tread similar where someone examined the CBS log file and was able to help. Is there anyone who could assist me? I have the CBS file. Thank you

Hello and welcome to Sysnative Forums,

Can you please upload your CBS folder for me to look at?

Export CBS folder

  1. Browse to the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  6. Attach this new file to your next post.

Well, I tried to attached the CBS file, but it was too big. So I zipped it which made it a .zipx file. But then the upload file manager tool says that is an invalid file type so I can't attache it either. Ideas?

Thanks

Duncan

Hello Duncan!

Please create a .zip file rather than a .zipx file. Step 4 in Stephen's above instructions tell you how to do that: "Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder."

Don't use any 3rd party tools such as WinZip, but please follow the instructions exactly as given and it should then work. If not, I'll let you know an alternate method.

:)

OK! that worked. Although from this screen I can't tell if the attachment is actually attached. I hope so, if not I will try, try again.

Thanks so much.

Excellent! That's perfect :)

Your corruption should be repaired by DISM.

To use DISM -

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15-20 minutes)

    sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately another 15 minutes)

Please confirm that SFC gives a positive (no corruptions detected/all corruptions successfully repaired) message.

I get error 87.

The DISM is "unknown"?

I can't cut and paste into the CMD prompt window. I triple checked my typing.

It did generate the attached log.

any luck with a next step? The DISM program does not run.

Thanks

Hi,

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Yup, you're all good to go. :)

Glad I could help!

View attachment CBS 4-10-14.log

we'll guys, the fix lasted about 24 hours then reverted back. I ran the sfc/scannow and it said same as before - found corrupted files but cannot fix. The CBS file is attached.

Should I just run those same fix's again?

But I wonder what happens after that? Probably goes out again.

Hello again,

You can try running the same fixes again, DISM first if possible, then the manual fix. You can copy and paste into a command prompt btw, but you have to right click -> paste inside the command prompt windows, you cannot Ctrl + V.

If the problem does occur again, I would not be concerned about it. This corruption is minor, and does not affect the day to day workings of Windows. In fact, if it reports it again, I am tempted to say that SFC is incorrectly flagging it.
