Constant BSODs on Thinkpad Carbon X1

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 (2nd gen, machine type 20a7), without a touchscreen. I've been getting BSODs on a pretty regular basis (about once a week or so), and I can't figure out what's causing them. I ran Lenovo's diagnostics app, and it found no problems, so I download the tools from this forum, and hopefully someone can help me figure this out. The laptop is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, preinstalled at the factory, and it's about a year old. It's running an Intel Core i5-4300 Intel HD Graphics 4400.

Thanks for your help

Greetings btdl7 & Welcome to Sysnative ^_^,

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide you with assistance any further because you are using a pirated copy of Windows. As per forum rules, this is prohibited. I am closing this thread and once you get a genuine copy, feel free to create another thread.

I would suggest you to check the below thread and see if you can find a valid product key -

Seems like Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is causing the problem in your case.

Below is a list of 3rd party drivers present on your system -

Kindly follow the below steps -

  1. Kindly update the highlighted drivers.
  2. Please remove the Bitdefender using this **LINK**.
  3. There are a lot of Lenovo drivers which need to be updated. Please use this link - http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/pro...ies-laptops/thinkpad-x1-carbon-type-20a7-20a8
  4. Download and install this Wifi driver - http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/pro...d-x1-carbon-type-20a7-20a8/downloads/DS104074

Let me know how it goes ^_^ . Once again, sorry for the trouble :)

Thanks for your help. I just updated all the drivers, including wifi, and I'll let you know if I get any more BSODs

I've actually done some testing in the last couple of days, and I'd like to see what happens before I re-run the BSOD tools and post the results. Here's what I've done:

1. I uninstalled Bitdefender, and kept everything else the same, but still got the BSOD. So I reinstalled BitDefender.
2. I uninstalled the Intel WiFi driver, and loaded an older version (17.12.0.4). It comes as driver-only, without all the extraneous software, and I though that it would help. But I still got the BSOD.
3. I uninstalled an even older wifi driver (17.1.0). I'm pretty sure that's the original driver that came with the laptop, but it has some sleep issues where it wouldn't restart properly after the laptop wakes up from standby. And in the last 24 hours, there have been no crashes. So, I want to give it an extra day or two to see what happens.

So, it didn't crash right away, but I did get another BSOD two days after loading the 17.1.0 wifi driver. I did reinstsall BitDefender (because there was a BSOD while it was completely uninstalled, so it's not causing this issue), and I also uninstalled a couple of things that I thought aren't necessary to the operation of the computer -- Intel App Management Engine, and Intel Smart Connect, and I disabled the corresponding drivers in device manager.

I'm attaching the new zip files...

Hi btdl7 ^_^,

I just checked the entire ZIP file and the last dump file was created in September. I checked the event log files along with the other reports but I was not able to see that a BSOD occurred. Are you sure that you experienced a BSOD?

I analysed the last dump file and according to it, the Intel driver caused the BSOD. In case you are experiencing the BSOD, could you please tell me what the error message is?

-Pranav

That's really weird. I've been getting BSODs on a semi-daily basis for the last few weeks, and I actually did some more testing since my last post. I bought a USB wifi adapter, and uninstalled the Intel wifi software, and disabled the device in Device Manager. I just wanted to make sure that the problem was with the Intel wifi driver. And it wend about 3 days without a BSOD, but just had another one this morning. Here's a picture of the screen:
IMG_1153.jpg

And I'll rerun the Sysnative BSOD app, and repost those logs shortly. Do I need to get Perfmon logs again?

Hi btdl7 ^_^,

As per the screenshot (Thanks for posting it! ). As per the screenshot, it seems that a critical process is being terminated and because of that, the system is crashing.

Please turn on Driver Verifier as per the below guide -
Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers - Windows 7 Help Forums

Once you have turned on the Driver Verifier, let the system run for some time and let it crash a few times. Once the system has crashed a few times, please re-run the SysnativeBSOD App and then upload the ZIP file.

And nope, you don't need to get the Perfmon logs again ;)

-Pranav

I actually already ran the driver verifier 2 days ago, and it did crash once after that. But it wasnt a driver verifier crash -- it was the exact same BSOD as I've been getting all along. But I'll be porsing the SysnativeBSOD logs shortly

As per the latest dump files, it's again your Intel Wifi driver which is causing the problem.

Do one thing. Just open up Device Manager, and then disable the Intel Wifi card under the Network Adapters section and see if the BSOD still persists or not.

-Pranav

That's not possible -- It's already been disabled for the last week or so. As I mentioned earlier, I bought a 3rd-party USB wifi adapter, and disabled the Intel one to test if it was a problem. And since I was still geting BSODs, I went into the BIOS 2 days ago, and disabled the WLAN adapter there. So now, it doesn't even show up in the device manager. But I got another BSOD this morning.

Please get the latest dump from c:\windows\minidump; copy it to Desktop or Documents; zip it up and attach to your next post.

Thanks.
