First, this is a known outside issue.

Second, this is a cable connection(40/2), with Bright House networks.

Third, this problem has been around for 2.5 years.

Fourth, I have cable, phone and internet with the same provider.

After years of troubleshooting and dozens of techs coming to my house, I was finally able to get the diagnosis I had suspected. They found a problem with the pedestal and some damaged fiber optic line in the run from the node. They say, now, that they have fixed the problem.

What was happening; full intermittent connection loss on all services. Extreme lag, while gaming. Degradation of hd channels.

I have not been at home enough, since the problem was "fixed" to determine the quality of repairs.

What I want to do is use some type of program to monitor the connection and record it's status. I think I need to minor, ping, jitter, up/down and connection. Basically, I just want to verify the connection falls within acceptable tolerances.

I was hoping for a program recommendation and how to best use it for monitoring and recording.

Would something like DPC Latency Checker be useful to you? I used it when I had similar connection issues with my system.

As far as DPC latency checker, I have it. I need something more comprehensive, though. I also tried Pingplotter, and another program, that I can't recall the name of. Problem is, my extent of real network knowledge is, really, limited to whether it's working or not. I need to track all of the aforementioned variables, to see whether or not they have resolved the issue. Especially since it is intermittent.

I'm no networking wizard so can't advice anything better...

Perhaps Rayda(2xg) will be of some help although I have not seen her around recently... Might try PMing her here or at TSF.

If you really want comprehensive, you can try Wireshark. It has various graphs and other statistical tools to discern problems with communication. However, it is not for the feint of heart. I recommend starting with TCP Stream and I/O graphs.

Thanks Vir. Yeah I tried wireshark. It may have well been in Japanese for all I know. I had no clue what I was doing or looking at. It's almost like you need a cert in wireshark.

I think since you have an established 2 1/2 year history of this problem and the provider has finally acknowledged the problem was on their side, you should aggressively pursue some compensation for your troubles and lack of consistent, promised service.

I don't know how much you pay for your service, but after 2 1/2 years, I am sure it was not chump change.

I would have to agree, it might not get you anywhere but what does it hurt to try.

To monitor i use my firewall (pfsense) for this. Any software you get will only monitor that one PC not your whole network which might not be an issue but letting you know.

To monitor all on the network have a proxy server between gateway and devices and have all traffic going thru proxy and have the monitoring software on the proxy server.
