Hi,

In trying to update my nvidia drivers I done a clean install, however the installation failed and trying to manually install them using the device manager method I get a error of "Configuration Registry Database Corrupt". Would anybody be able to help me please? I understand from reading threads on here that it's down to a corrupt registry?

This is the cbs log (I think?) which is usually what is asked for :)

CBS.zip - Google Drive

Thank you in advance,
Chris

Sorry for double post...But the code it throws up in windows update is 0x800703f1...Once again thanks for any help in advance, its amazing what you guys do on here from reading all the posts - learning as I read!

Hello and welcome!

Upload Drivers Hive

  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select copy
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the DRIVERS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config
  7. Try updating drivers again.

Thank you so very much!! The graphics driver installed straight away! :D

Is this down to a corrupt registry out of interest or something that is a common cause - would like to avoid anything that may cause it in future :)

Great! Unfortunately, we don't know the root cause of this corruption. Your driver database was completely corrupt. I simply provided a fresh copy. Glad to hear it has helped!

I spoke to soon...I thought I'd check the updates and I've got a error code 0x80070652 trying to install "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809" a couple of days ago. Would the problem you've just solved be related to that or is that another issues?

Okay :)

We need to run a few checks first to see where is the problem:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Thanks. Looks good.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

All clear:

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

Thank you, That seems to have done the trick! I now just have a problem trying to save any modified settings through the nivdia control panel which I think might be a permissions issue :/
