Close call. . .

I just don't understand how come there have been so many mishappenings related to aircrafts? Incidents like these just chill my mind whenever I am travelling via flight :eek2:
 
Hmm? I wonder why so many from one area of the world. That were not shot down.:roll eyes (sarcasti If the airline has a word Asia/Malaysia in it, I NO FLY!

  • February 16 – Nepal Airlines Flight 183, a de Havilland Canada DHC-6, crashes near Khidim about 74 kilometres southwest of Pokhara, Nepal, killing all 18 people on board.
  • February 17 – Ethiopian Airlines Flight 702, a Boeing 767, is hijacked by the co-pilot while en route from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Rome, Italy, but lands safely at Geneva, Switzerland. All 202 passengers and crew aboard are unharmed.
  • March 8 – Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, a Boeing 777 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board, disappears from radar over the Gulf of Thailand. Has still not been found.
  • July 17 – Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, a Boeing 777 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, is shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board in the deadliest civilian airliner shootdown incident.
  • July 23 – TransAsia Airways Flight 222, an ATR-72 en route from Kaohsiung to Penghu, Taiwan, crashes during go-around, killing 48 of the 58 people on board.
  • July 24 – Air Algérie Flight 5017, a chartered Swiftair McDonnell Douglas MD-83 operating for Air Algérie en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers, crashes in the northern Mali desert after disappearing from radar approximately 50 minutes after takeoff, killing all 110 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
  • August 10 – Sepahan Airlines Flight 5915, a HESA IrAn-140 (an Antonov An-140 built under license) crashes shortly after takeoff from Mehrabad International Airport, Iran, killing 39 of the 48 people on board.
  • December 28 – Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501, an Airbus A320 en route from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore with 155 passengers and 7 crew on board, crashes into waters off Borneo killing everyone on board.

  • February 4 – TransAsia Airways Flight 235, an ATR-72-600, crashes into the Keelung River in Taiwan. 31 of the 58 passengers and crew on board are killed.

While the safety records amongst Asian airlines and western ones are actually pretty close, there are no-name (at least globally) airlines that I would avoid like the plague. AirAsia and TransAsia are among them, along with any airline based in Indonesia. I'm also not a big fan of Indian airlines, mostly because it just "feels" dangerous traveling between Indian cities - I don't think there's any real records saying it is more dangerous, but given the planes used and the way they're maintained and cleaned (or, perhaps not) it just feels more dangerous perhaps. In Africa or MENA, I'll fly Ethiopian, but nothing else unless I have no choice (and I prefer Emirates or Lufthansa if I can find them).

You have been to India? Which city?
Also, why not go with Jet Airlines?
 
:) - yeah, not surprising. I'd like to see Mumbai at some point, and get to the north, but I haven't had the opportunity yet.

Yew. Mumbai is extremely crowded place and so is Bangalore I heard. I was at a workshop in Mumbai and promised never to go again...
Why not come and visit the Gurgaon office? :p That way you would visit the North and you would have the opportunity to meet me :lol: (I know it should be reverse :p )
