The latest update to Adobe's Flash has been crashing Mozilla Firefox users on Windows since last week, but the firms behind the products are still searching for a fix.

"We are aware that some users of Firefox on Windows updating to Flash 11.3 encounter issues watching videos ... We are working with Adobe on a fix," a Mozilla spokesperson told The Reg late Friday.

I've been paying some attention to this issue, the 'fix' for those that can't watch video with the latest version of Flash seems to be either disable the sandboxing (security) in 11.3 or revert to a version (11.2.202.233) that's being actively attacked. The 'secure' version of 11.2 (11.2.202.235) is not being recommended.

Corrine, as far as I've been able to tell, the updated Firefox (13.01) only fixes the Flash crash on browser close issue "FIXED -- Flash 11.3 sometimes caused a crash on quit", it doesn't affect the in browser crashes or videos failing to play, etc. that the El Reg article and I were referring to.

I'm hoping Adobe get enough feedback soon to work out a secure fix for these issues: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
Problem: Flash content does not appear, YouTube display errors such as "An error occurred. Please try again later.", or Flash video will not function properly.

Adobe, Mozilla offer workarounds for Flash Player crash issues, still working on a fix

Ever since Adobe updated its Flash Player to version 11.3, many PC users have been reporting crash issues when viewing videos in Firefox. Neither Adobe nor Mozilla has been able to find a fix to this bug, which appears to be affecting both Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, though the two companies have now offered some workarounds.

Adobe, for its part, published four possible remedies today, advising users to disable the RealPlayer Download and Recording plug-in, run Firefox in Safe Mode, or create a new Firefox profile. The company also recommended using a clean Windows profile. Mozilla offered a similar solution, encouraging users to turn off or disable the aforementioned RealPlayer plug-in, or even uninstall RealPlayer altogether. If none of these tactics solve the issue, Mozilla recommends downgrading to Flash Player 11.2.

It remains unclear whether a full fix will arrive anytime soon, but in a statement to the BBC, Mozilla confirmed that the two companies "are working closely to diagnose and address these issues."

Updating is recommended, if you had to modify the mms.cfg file to make the previous version work, please remove the added line.

1) Flash Player plug-in version only (for browsers othan than IE) has been updated to 11.3.300.262
[Flash ActiveX for IE remains at 11.3.300.257 ]

2) Users of Sandboxie experiencing problems with Flash 11.3 should update Sandboxie to version 3.72

Coincidentally, although I haven't had any problems previously, the Flash Player plug-in crashed today when I was trying to get more information on the UEFA Euro 2012 schedule. I verified I have the latest plug-in installed and FF is updated to 13.0.1. I don't have Sandboxie installed.

You're not alone in having 11.3.300.262 trigger this problem where it had been fine previously Corrine, I'm pretty sure it hit Wrench97 too - as well as numerous others.

Current Adobe advice seems to be revert to 11.2 or 10.3, (modify the mms.cfg) or disable hardware acceleration in Flash.
