Hi Everyone

I'm having trouble installing Windows Defender on a MS Server 2016 box. I have attached the CBS log. This shows that the culprits might be KB4537764 and perhaps also KB5017305. I have also attached Frst64 (Farbar) SearchReg logs for both of these KB's. I have been able to successfully install KB5017305 using DISM but KB4537764 is no longer available.

It might be that I need to run fixlist.txt files using Frst64 against KB4537764 (and perhaps KB5017305) but I don't know how to create these. I wonder if someone might be able to help please? Thanks so much in advance, very much appreciated.

PS I have also attached a link to the COMPONENTS file in case this also helps - COMP/COMPONENTS

Hi,

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:4537764
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors. Or take a screenshot of the command prompt window and paste it into your next reply.

Hi Maxstar

Many thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it came back with the following error:

If there is anything further we can try that would be great and very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.
  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Restart the system and try to install Defender, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
