I have run system readiness utility, rebooted, ran fix it, rebooted and ran sfc /scannow - no errors reported by sfc /scannow.

Attached is the compressed ZIP file for the CBS directory under logs.

2 entries w/that key under Components - Canonical Data & 2 entries under Derived Data.

No entries found under Deployments.

Would appreciate any help at all.

Hello Brad-Man and welcome to Sysnative!

Registry Fix

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, click once on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to select it.
  4. Click File > Load Hive then browse to %windir%\System32\config (usually C:\Windows\System32\config) and open the COMPONENTS
  5. Give the Hive a Key Name of COMPONENTS then click OK.

Then I would like you to download this fix to your Desktop:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/Fix.zip

Registry script has been fixed.

Read More:

Extract the contents, there should be one file: fix.reg.
Right-click on the file and select Merge. Accept the warning about merging a file to your registry.

When it says the file has been successfully merged with the registry, reboot your computer.

Then run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and upload your CBS folder again please, like you just did.

Hi Brad-Man,

I don't know whether you saw the post or not, but niemiro kindly removed the download link from my post as it contained an error. I just wanted to let you know that this has since been fixed and I would like you to run the instructions as directed.

I tried and it did not import, so I took a look in the actual file and saw this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\louk1\CanonicalData\Deployments\647fec83d3b..91b7cf01bca_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16673_e344dbb857b75a69]

Should that not COMPONENTS instead of louk1?

In looking in the registry, I already have that catalog thumbprint entry...

Looks like it deleted the entry above it in that key...or replaced the whole key...

Made it past that error and the Update Readiness Tool ran with no found problems, but trying to install SP! I got - Error: ERROR_ SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING(0x80073701)..

Attached is the CBS log...Should I start a new thread for this message?

Yep, that entry in CheckSUR.log is now fixed.

And please stick to this thread. We generally prefer to deal with a complete issue per thread, rather than one part of an issue per thread. Thank you :)

This new error is usually reasonably easy to fix, but right now there is a problem, because it isn't showing in any logfiles....which is a fairly rare problem.

Just to check, the CBS.log was definitely taken after the SP1 install failed with the new error? Because for some reason I am not seeing the new error in the logs.

Can you please do me a favour and try to install SP1 one more time, restart the computer, and collect a new (zipped) CBS.log.

Hopefully it will then show in the logs, otherwise we may have to change tact.

Thank you!

Richard

This appears to be from an incorrectly installed package - KB2388210, for which I get an error trying to uninstall.

It will be very hard to work off just that information alone. Can you please provide the logfiles I asked for in my last post so that we can begin to put together a fix. If there is any information in there to do with the uninstall failure which I deem relevant, I will include it as part of the fix. But at this time, logfiles are more important than random uninstalling.

Apparently, I did not get notification of your early response - I just got notification of the last.

I will try to install again, reboot and upload the CBS logs...Thanks.

Hello again :)

I need a little more information to put together a fix for this one.
First please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop (the one with no file extension). If it does not exist there, please copy it from C:\Windows\System32\Config\

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). SkyDrive may be a good choice, but any other will do just fine too.

I then want you to open an Elevated Command Prompt: How to start an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7 and Vista

and copy and paste in, one at a time, pressing enter after each (Tip: right click > Paste only, Ctrl-V doesn't work in Command Prompt)

dir %windir%\Servicing /s > %UserProfile%\Desktop\Logs\log1.txt
dir %windir%\WinSxS /s > %UserProfile%\Desktop\Logs\log2.txt

I then want you to zip up and upload the Logs1 folder also. If you wish, you can drop the COMPONENTS hive into the Logs folder prior to zipping, and do it all in one.

Thank you!

Richard

I have uploades the Logs/Zip to Will's Skydrive - Thanks Richard. And BTW - that is my first name too!

It's a good name :p

You don't happen to have a link to the files do you? Because which Will are you talking about? I am probably being slow, but the only Will I can think of off the top of my head is one of our administrators: View Profile: Will Watts - Sysnative Forums

I am really sorry. Do you mind throwing me a quick link? Thank you.

Will Eae is the link I got to when I followed your link. Let me know if you have any problem...

I started going by Brad because my dad's 1st name is Richard too and he goes by Dick. When I hit puberty I refused to be called 'Little Dick', because of course he called himself 'Big Dick'...

I have always refused to be called Dick :p I don't actually have any problem with it, but it seems everyone else uses it in a derogatory way, so I always pull a "not amused" face when someone calls me it to avoid that problem :p

Ah, I see the problem now. The link I first gave to you was a generic link. When you click on it, it goes to your Microsoft/SkyDrive account. But when I click on it, it goes to my SkyDrive account. Clever, isn't it?

Anyway, the point is, I can't get access to your SkyDrive account without you giving me a link. So, what I need you to do is go to the file, make sure it is publicly accessible (that part is crucial), and then copy and paste the link in your browser into your next post. Then I can access it :)

If it goes wrong again, I shall show you an alternative. Thanks for being so patient and sticking with me.

Richard
