Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named CKing123. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

I did try to run the ms update diagnostic tool and got this error Error 0x80070005 , also tried what ms said on this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/968003

in fact ms tool seems to make things worse I had to run the surts tool again also what I mean about an in place upgrade is repair of the operating system

Hello bazer and :welcome: to Sysnative!

We need to know more about how you did the in-place upgrade:

  1. Which instructions did you use?
  2. Did you use the installation media that had SP1, or RTM?
  3. Which version of Windows 7 do you have (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, etc)?
  4. What version did you try to upgrade to (Home Premium, Professional, etc)?

Hello bazer!

We will uninstall IE 11, and then repair Windows Update and then try in-place upgrading:

[color=9000]Uninstalling IE11[/color]
Click Start, type cmd in the Search box, and then click cmd under Programs.
Right click and select Run as administrator
Copy and paste the following command:
Code:
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart
Let it finish, and then restart your computer

We will run a repair of Windows Update:

[COLOR=9000]Repairing Windows Update[/COLOR]

Please download Windows Repair All-In-One
After it is downloaded, right-click on the zip file, and click Extract All...
Click Extract

Now, run Repair_Windows.exe

Go to Repairs tab

Now, click Open Repairs

Click Unselect All, and then only checkmark these:

Code:
03 - Reset Service Permissions
04 - Register System Files
17 - Repair Windows Updates
21 - Repair MSI (Windows Installer)

Now, choose to restart, and click Start Repairs
Note: It can take some time for the repairs, so please be patient.

Once the repairs are finished, allow your computer to restart

Now, do a Clean Boot, and try the in-place upgrade again

Hello bazer!

Have you considered upgrading to Windows 10? If you want, there is an easy way to do so, and it will side-step the issue of doing the in-place repair install

Go to this page, and click Upgrade Now

It will download the Media Creation Tool.
Run the downloaded file
Choose Upgrade This PC
Click Next
Follow the instructions
When it asks you about keeping your files, Make sure to choose to keep everything

If you have any questions, let us know!

Because the pc was used before, you might want to reset Windows to make it go back to full speed. Antiviruses do slow down PCs but you want to switch to another antivirus, it may be faster, but again, it depends on you!

im still with windows 7 I may of not explained correctly,
any thoughts on why pc wont do a repair/upgrade ,

I know that windows 10 can be reset I have that on my other pc which I upgraded from windows 8,

but im talking about this pc in the one that I cant do a repair install which has windows 7 home premium,

im still with windows 7 I may of not explained correctly,
any thoughts on why pc wont do a repair/upgrade ,
also would it be best to upgrade to windows 10 on a reinstalled windows 7 first or is this not important thanks baz

Hello.

Doing a repair install will not help that much because when you start installing Windows 10, it is going to overwrite the things that Windows 7 repair install would have, so it would not be an issue.

You should upgrade to Windows 10, rather than reinstalling Windows 7

Even if clean install is what you want, you can do that directly using the Media Creation Tool to clean install Windows 10

ok thanks. for your reply ie11 seems to be behaving now but would have like if you had any idea's why I cant do a repair/upgrade on the windows 7 but will upgrade to windows 10 soon thanks baz

Hello,

I am not certain why Windows 7 repair install is not working, and although even Windows 10 install could fail, but it is less likely
