A significant number of BODs and need led me to this site for help. My computer skills have up to now been limited but I have discovered desperation is a great motivator for learning so.... I believe I have followed the script and I'm in your hands.
Many thanks
George K

Hi. . .

There were no dumps in the attached zip file.

Furthermore, a check of the system files reveals that there are no dumps in \windows\minidump nor is there a full kernel dump at \windows\memory.dmp

I assume from your post that you have in fact experienced BSODs and have actually seen the blue screen itself. . .?

Please check this info out - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...information/9599-bsods-but-no-dump-files.html

Re: BSODs but no Dump Files?

`

No Kernel Memory Dump files being produced upon BSOD?

For dumps to be produced. . .
▪ Page file must be on OS drive
▪ Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
▪ Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
▪ Set page file to system managed, OS drive

Set System Crash/ Recovery Settings to "Kernel Memory Dump" - this will produce. . .
--> a Full Kernel Memory Dump - c:\windows\memory.dmp
--> a Mini Kernel dump c:\windows\minidump

The Full Kernel is overwritten each BSOD; a new mini kernel dump is created w/ different name for each BSOD

To check your system's "Recoveros" (Recovery) and Page File settings via Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), run the following -

HTML output - WMI - "Recoveros" and Page File Settings (HTML)
Text file output - WMI - "Recoveros" and Page File Settings (TEXT)

July 2012
A hotfix is available that enables a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer to create a memory dump file without a page file

kb2716542 - A hotfix is available that enables a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer to create a memory dump file without a page file

Additional Information -

To view page file settings, bring up an Admin cmd/DOS screen & paste this applet -

Or, click on START; paste the applet into the StartSearch box -
Code:
[FONT=lucida console][SIZE=2][COLOR=#000033]
[/COLOR][/SIZE][COLOR=#000033]SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe /pagefile[/COLOR][/FONT]

Hi,
Thanks for coming back to me jcgriff2.
There may be no evidence of them but I was getting BSOD daily, sometimes multiples. The computer was also periodically refusing to start without going through some form of 'system fix'.
Since I posted my cry for help I have uninstalled Google Chrome and installed Firefox. So far no BSOD but the computer froze three times and I forced shutdown on each occasion.
Because the Perfmon showed the keyboard and touchpad were 'faulty' my next step was to uninstall the keyboard device driver, download and install latest driver. Then I uninstalled the touchpad driver and downloaded and installed latest driver. So far everything has functioned normally.
I'm a babe in the woods when it comes to what you seem to do so well but I got this.

wmic_recoveros_page.txt

Hi. . .

I don't see any reason why your system isn't producing dumps.

1 item of note from the output in your post -
InstallDate=20080402

That of course is your Windows install date (likely the initial boot of your system) - 2 April 2008

That was over 7 years ago.

I think it's time that you gave serious consideration to reinstalling Windows using the recovery partition, which I verified that your system does in fact have.

Back up all of your documents, pictures, etc... and reinstall Vista.

A fresh OS is the best way to help figure out if the BSODs are being caused by software or hardware.

Hi Jcgriff2,
I'm grateful for your advice, it makes sense to me to reinstall Vista. Big job but good chance to clean out and I'm sure it will put me back on track.
Thank you.
George

Hi George,

I know it's a big job and I don't often give out such advice.

When you get to Desktop after the install, allow Windows Update to take over and install all updates -- there are several hundred of them.

Good luck to you.

Regards,

John
