having issue viewing specific info, such as video card since I can't since I can't access system info (wmi files may be missing)

All my issues starting on June 18, when I noticed I had no sound, went into control panel and my 1st 4 icons were blank, (administrator being one) and I couldn't access device manager, event viewer (mmc cannot initialize the snap-in event viewer CLSID: FX: {b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}), windows updates. looks like an issue among many, tried a some fixes and am not getting anywhere after 3 days.

any help would be very helpful.

thanks much, Dianne

That one is the same as the first the performance monitor html file only.
Is the BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe program completing and closing all by itself?

Manually check the C:\Windows\Minidump folder for any .dmp files if there are any compress them(zip them up) and attach.

It doesn't seem to be picking up any dump files or any of the other files for some reason :confused2:

Let's gather the most important files manually:

Check this directory for any Minidumps:

Code:
%systemroot%\Minidump

Start > Type: %systemroot%\Minidump > Copy the files (if any) > Place the files into a zipped folder > Upload the folder in your next post.

If no files are available, then make sure a Minidump has been configured by following this tutorial from Sevenforums - Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD - Windows 7 Help Forums

Then, upload the MSINFO32 file:

Start > Type: msinfo32 > File, Save > Place file into a zipped folder > Upload in your next post.

To attach files to your next post, then click Go Advanced at the bottom of your post edit box, click the paper file icon, select Add Files and then Select Files. Drag the uploaded folders into the Attachments pane and select Done.

The other files seem to be there, but there is no .dmp files.

Please do not run any file cleaning programs or disk cleanups, delete any scheduled cleanups as these programs will delete any .dmp files.

Check this directory for any Minidumps:

Code:
%systemroot%\Minidump

Start > Type: %systemroot%\Minidump > Copy the files (if any) > Place the files into a zipped folder > Upload the folder in your next post.

If no files are available, then make sure a Minidump has been configured by following this tutorial from Sevenforums - Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD - Windows 7 Help Forum

Once the BSODs have been configured to be saved as a Minidump (.dmp) file, then they will appear within the Minidump folder, once a BSOD has occurred again.

Darn, yes i did check the last time you mentioned the mini dumps, the folder is empty. It is configured so the dumps will be created. By deleting the %temp% folder often, will that get rid of the dump files? the BSOD happened after I noticed my blank icons in control panel. It happened when I initially ran malwarebytes to see if it was caused by a virus, which there was no evidence of. Any ideas of why MMC can't initialize snap-ins? So frustrating, I feel like i'm going down..

Sorry to jump in here but just thought I would add something.

No, clearing the temp folder manually won't clear dumps, but don't run any automated cleaning tools such as CCleaner until we have finished troubleshooting. Next time you have a BSOD, the .dmp file will be created and located in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Zip the file and upload it here after your next BSOD.

Regarding the snap-in and blank icons issue, could you please do the following. We may need to send you to the Windows Update and CBS log experts.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Stephen

Hello,

Could you please reboot your system and see if the issues persist? If they do, I will send a message to our resident expert on these logs to take a look for you.

Hi Tekno, yes, I still have the issue, I did the chkdsk first thing when i noticed the issue. I have windows updates that wont install (i can't even see what they are because I can't get into WU), 5 blank icons in Control panel, no sound, can't get into device manager, event viewer or any othe administrator things.
Thanks for your help. Dianne

Hi again,

I think you may have some registry or file corruptions that SFC is unable to repair by itself. I have sent a message to our expert who will hopefully be able to help. Please note, he is currently very busy so there may be a wait until he can help!

Stephen

will hang on best i can. just tried installing BB desktop and having error issues writing values to \CLSID\ which has come prior in my searches for answers to this mess.

Hello :)

Firstly, your SFC result is absolutely nothing to worry about. There was a bug in one of the recent Windows Vista updates which caused SFC to incorrectly detect as corrupt some non-corrupt files. This is what is happening here. So, the only thing you need to know is that SFC is detecting no (actually) corrupt files :)

Now, there's a specific tool I want you to run next, but I've lost the link. I'll have to wait until I can get home to post it to you. Please hang in there :)

Richard

Thanks so much Richard, I guess that is somewhat conforting. One of the 1st things I did was go to unistall recent updates to see if that was the culprit, but I can't access anything, or do a restore. If that is the case, did Microsoft warn of that, after the fact? I know i have additional updates sitting there, but I can't see them, nor will they install. I was trying to re-install my BB desktop manager, which also stopped working and it gave me some CLSID errors, when I went into the registry file, there were probably over 100 keys that were non accessible saying an error was preventing the key from being opened. I will sit tight. Again, thanks so much Richard.

Ok Richard, will do. Do you think all those CLSID errors and non accessible keys in the registry are related? Everyday i find something else that's not working.

It ran successfully, but i still have the issue. In fact, I just noticed that I now have 5 blank icons in control panel, and many CP items won't open. Again, no sound, no mmc, can't install updates, can't reinstall or repairs on anything that is currently not working (they all refer to CLSID or setup not being able to access needed files), I know that is because those CLSID files can't be accessed....lots of them! :noidea:
