Attempt the guess the title of the book from the clue given in the previous post, and set a new clue. The member who set the last clue will then tell you whether or not you were correct, and further guesses by anybody can then be made.

When setting clues, try to keep to well known and internationally sold books, especially those which are currently topical, for example those which have been recently adapted for international cinema.

Please try to make clues reasonably simple, and which identify only a single book. The aim of this game is to remember and share good books. Light discussion of your opinions on each book is encouraged. Try to avoid using the internet if at all possible. Without further ado, the first clue:

Which book features as its protagonist Liesel Meminger?

How did I never see this thread before? I'm reviving it - I don't care if it only has one post. :p

Answer: The Book Thief.

My clue: (admittedly I'm ignoring your one book only rule, although you could get the specific book it's from, but several answers are appropriate here).

'DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING', said Death. 'JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.'

'DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING', said Death. 'JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.'

That'd be Terry Pratchett - not sure which book though. One of his Discworld series.

I'm gonna admit to not reading very much of his work. It's on my list to read. I've got a free Kindle book voucher about to expire - need some ideas of what to buy! I'm currently reading The Stand by Stephen King.

My clue is not an old, classic or famous book, but one of my favourites. Really should read it again.

"Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped."

It was actually Good Omens - one of the few non-Discworld books where Death appears. But yes, Terry Pratchett.

Not sure about your one - I'll leave it a bit for someone else to answer before I look it up.

A guess on the duct tape - Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

Actually, just realised you said not famous.....

For a book to read, I'm actually going to make the same recommendation I made here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/introductions-new-members/13928-hi-everyone.html#post102280

Night: Amazon.co.uk: Elie Wiesel, Marion Wiesel: 9780141038995: Books

I genuinely think it is a book which everyone should read. Incredibly short, incredibly powerful.

And here's Auslander: Ausländer: Amazon.co.uk: Paul Dowswell: 9780747594192: Books

It's probably not a book you'd read twice, but it does give the most incredible insight I've ever experienced into what it was like to live in Germany during the war.

BTW, has anyone ever read Testament of Youth? Amazon.com: Testament of Youth (Penguin Classics) (9780143039235): Vera Brittain, Shirley Williams, Mark Bostridge: Books

I've watched the film which was good - unsure whether to read the book.

And here's another quote. I am sure we can manage two at once - Stephen's is still open after all :)

It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
