I recently put Win8 on one of my pc's and really enjoyed all the apps but found it radically different to Win7. I actually prefer the simplicity of Win7. Sort of like when Vista came out and stayed with xp till 7 came out. Anyone else like to chime in?

Simplicity-wise, Windows 8 would fit that description better than Windows 7. I think you're confusing simplicity, with familiarity. :beerchug2:

I liked Vista more than XP - liked Win7 more than Vista - and I liked Win8 more than Win7
It's the added internal features that impresses me - not the UX (User Experience - aka "eye candy") stuff

The UI of Windows 8 is what ruins any performance gains, along with programs not actually closing, hidden charm bar and the horrible Start Screen.

I preferred Vista over XP.

I still prefer Windows 7 and to me it is the best Windows they ever created - with form, function, beauty - something for everyone. Particularly after SP1 as usual. ;)

It helps me to view the Start Screen as a "fancy-schmancy" Start Menu.
You can see it this way if you tell it to view all apps using the little "-" in the lower right corner (but then it's too small to read)
If you see that, and the problem that I mentioned - then the built-in search function becomes necessary to find stuff.

I've never needed a Start button as I use the Win key on my keyboard to launch both the Start menu (in XP/Vista/Win7) and the Start screen (in Win8).
I had to setup a Surface Pro the other day and was lost without a keyboard - until I remembered the Charm Bar on the right side!

I didnt like win 8 at all at first and avoided using it other than on my laptop just to stay in the loop, I think missing the start button was my biggest issue and after leaving it alone for a while decided to try start-menu-reviver and now I must admit i love it so much Im considering installing it on my my main desktop production machine

It's terrible, half of the time it doesn't appear when you want to use it, and just look at the name..Charm Bar?

Windows 8 was driven for tablets, Windows 8.1 is a improvement and makes Windows 8 bearable.

It's worked 100% of the time for me, how are you trying to get to the charms? Another way is {WinKey} + C.

I have the same issue, it's just a PITA that I avoid at this point I don't want to relearn short cut keys like it was dos or have to hunt for a way to turn the darn thing off, the OS should be something that lays in the background and programs I use run on top of if either become a pain to use it's time to use something else.

:ditto:

Try WIN KEY + X for a list of 'old' start menu items.

I myself click on Desktop as soon as tiles appear; keep CMD box pinned to Taskbar & type in the usual 'Start Menu' items as I did in Windows 7, e.g., compmgmt.msc; others - including CONTROL for C/P!

"anyone else not happy with windows 8?"
seriously? with that lovely user interface, how can anyone not be happy with windows 8?

i love windows 8 when i install the program "classic shell" - which adds a true start menu, fixes up explorer, and causes 8 to go to explorer instead of metro, at boot. --- classic shell linky, right over here ---> Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

I do find Windows 8 faster than its predecessors, but the new 7200 rpm HDD may be helping that!
