For the past month i've had the udate problem which looks like is quite common, on updates the computer get locked into rebooting-configuring updates then rebooting and the only way to get the computer working is to install the cd which came with the computer and do a clean windows install and although it gets the computer up and running again it all starts again when updating.
ive run the comand window which has produced :
""Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable for fix them""
I have the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log but there's too many error to post here.
Is it correct that i need to delete sevice pack 1+2 in able to get the recovery disc to 'repair' the computer ?
If not , how can i get these files fixed ?

Hello Bobble262, welcome to Sysnative!

Could you zip up, and attach, your CBS folder please:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

If this is too big, upload it to SendSpace and post the link please:

Hi Bobble262,

No problem, I've helped less experienced computer users in the past so hopefully I should be able to talk you through everything. If there's every anything that you don't understand, or just want to know, then please stop and ask me.

It appears that you've uploaded the wrong file, would you mind trying again please:

I would like you to upload the CBS.zip file on your Desktop please. If you could upload it to SendSpace again then that would be great!

Hi Bobble,

No need to apologise, it's just a small misunderstanding :) Thanks for the logs. You CBS log is showing 4 corrupt files:

As these files are from Vista, and I run Windows 7, I have no way of uploading these for you quickly. I have a Vista disc downstairs but it's getting late here and I'll have to do it tomorrow I'm afraid.

I cant remember exactly but I ran

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

and doesnt that seperate all corrupt files within the cbs log and put it on the desktop titled sfcdetails , and that's what i uploaded 1st Sendspace .

It only tells us half of the picture and cuts out the most important information. Here's a comparison of the two:

sfcdetails.txt:

As you can see, the CBS log contains a lot more information which we wouldn't be able to fix this problem without!

Tom

Is that all, 4 files ?
Looking at all the txt i thought it was completely buggered !
I have to say Tom, i do admire your ability to work this out and giving your time to help people like me as i'd still be suffering so i have to say a huge thank you for this .
Anyway back to the problem, i have the recovery disc which came with the computer & have tried to 'Repair' the system and use the restore point but it's not giving me the option, it's only wants to do a clean windows install which i've had to do everytime the computer got stuck in the continous rebooting when the windows updates got stuck, and that's 4 times now.
I learned yesterday that if i delete the service packs 1+2 then i'd be able to do a 'repair' using the disc but i dont want to do anything till i get conformation from someone who knows a lot more than me.

Hi Bobble,

Sorry for the delay, I've been at work all day.

Yes, that's all! The CBS log can look a bit daunting, can't it? :)

You're most welcome for the help. I really enjoy helping people out, and learn a lot in the process, but what makes it all worth while is the the appreciation you get from people like yourself.

Stripping your computer back to RTM (before SP1 and SP2) would be an option but it would take a lot, lot longer to fix so I think it's best to fix this manually.

The files are currently extracting (about 20 minutes to go) but I will post a fix as soon as I've got some dinner in me :)

Tom

Hi Bobble,

The files all extracted and after looking through them, it turns out my Vista disc is a SP1 disc. It's been so long since I last used it, I completely forgot. So the files that I have are version 6.0.6001.18000 which is ahead of the version that we need here: 6.0.6000.16386. We'll have to extract them from your disc instead.

To extract these files, you will need to download 7-zip: 7-Zip

Double click on 7z920.exe to install it. When the window appears, click Install, then Finish.

Insert your Vista DVD and click on the Start
Start%20Orb.jpg
button and then click Computer. When the DVD is recognised, it will be named something like FRMCFRE_EN_DVD, double click on it to open it. Open the sources folder by double clicking on it, then find the file install.wim.

Right-click on install.wim and click 7-Zip > Open Archive. 7-Zip may take a minute or so to open this file, depending on how fast your computer is, so just be patient until the window appears. You should now see a few folders, navigate to the following folder:

1\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-directshow-other_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_0b1ac5fde3cf7f3f\

And select the file mciqtz32.dll by clicking on it once. Click Extract then change the Copy to: box to C:\ and click OK.

Then navigate to this folder please:

1\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-i..lified-chinese-core_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_15da9be54b086d36\

And select the file PINTLGAS.IMD by clicking on it once. Click Extract then change the Copy to: box to C:\ and click OK.

Once you have extracted both of these files to C:\, you can close 7-zip.

Command Prompt

Hi Tom
Sorry about the lateness but sometimes i have nights away due to work but anyway ..

Ive just tried the fix but sadly it doesnt work, i get to where i 'extact' and the popup box opens ,but when i change from Scorces to C:\ it say's "ERROR
0 can not open output file C:\mciqtz32.dll" & the same with the other dll .

Andy.

Hi Andy,

No problem, I completely understand people have lives outside of this forum. Just post at your convenience and I'll still be around :)

What happens if you drag the files to your Desktop? As in, select the files in 7zip and drag them straight onto your Desktop.

Tom

Excellent! Now can you repeat that for the other file? When you have both of the files on your Desktop, I would like you to copy both to C:\ then do the following:

Command Prompt

I feel stupid in asking but, how do you copy them to C:\
Right click on each file, ( which i now have on the desktop) , copy, then .... ... ?

One of my favourite sayings: The only stupid question is the one left unasked. :)

One by one, right click on the file, select Copy, then click on Start > Computer, double click on Local Disk (C:) (it may have a different name, but it will be C:), then right click and Paste.

Tom

Great job! Now for the fix:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
