I was unable to do the paper clip add files method. Add files takes me to a sysnative site. I will use one drive when it is available

Be sure that you disable hibernation and sleep in power options and allow the check for updates to run overnight until it completes.

I should add that the last update was in 2011, so there are lots of updates. I have not tried to run SURT. Should I?

Please try downloading and installing the following updates: Microsoft Update Catalog Microsoft Update Catalog Microsoft Update Catalog

If you've got SP 1 then try to download & install SP 2. - Run the SFCfix tool and post the results in your next reply. - Visit the website Search for Windows Updates takes forever? - A possible solution again. Since March of 2016 the author of this website has published each month a new page with new instructions. These are all archived. Try the instruction for the month of March. I tried each of the update catalogs starting with the top one, I successfuklly downloaded each. When I tried to run each standalone installer kept spinning and i could not stop using the cancel button; I used task manager to stop each. I have not yet tried Willy2 's ideas

I went back to the march,2016 pqge and installed the iones there and did the same for all pages through nov,2016. this was yesterday. i then restarted and then started windows update. I started at 3:46 yesterday afternoon 11/15; it is still running. I am going to let it run. Any other ideas?
