Yes, it is Update Tuesday and with it comes updates to Adobe Flash Player and AIR. Users of the Adobe Flash Player desktop runtime for Windows and Macintosh should update to Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.160. The current version of Adobe AIR is 18.0.0.144. (The latest versions for Linux, Android and Flash Player ESR are included in my blog post.)

An interesting update to the latest version of Flash Player is the Improved Flash Player Install Process, documented in the Release Notes, Flash Player® 18 AIR® 18:

"With Flash Player 18, in the vast majority of cases, the installer will no longer display a dialog to shut down the currently running browsers or applications that are using Flash Player!

Once the installation is completed, you will be notified that the browser may need to be restarted to use the newly installed version. This requirement depends on your browser’s ability to see the new version. Either way, Flash will continue to work and you can easily force the new version to appear by simply restarting your browser when it’s convenient for you."

Direct download links for Windows 7 and below:

Non-IE Plugin (Opera, Firefox, Etc.): http://download.macromedia.com/get/...ensing/win/install_flash_player_18_plugin.exe

And me who finally convinced the ID team to start deploying the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (17 at the time) on the computers and in the images... Now to tell them to push v18 instead!

Any reason you don't use Flash ESR? https://www.adobe.com/uk/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

What is the Extended Support Release?

Adobe makes available a version of Flash Player called the "Extended Support Release" (ESR) to organizations that prefer Flash Player stability over new functionality. We have created a branch of the Flash Player code that we keep up to date with all of the latest security updates, but none of the new features or bug fixes available in our current release branch. This allows organizations to ceritify and stay secure on Flash Player with minimal effort.

We recommend that companies focused on security and stability take a close look at this release option.

I can't tell to be honest. I'm just a tier 2 tech there, I'm not the one managing the programs or packaging them. We use many house apps so maybe a newer version of Adobe Flash Player is required for some of them. I don't know if the guys in the ID team even know about it.
