Every single time I run sfc /scannow, it ends with "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.", which leads me to believe it doesn't actually repair anything, though this is what SFCFix.txt says:

Code:
SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2018-01-31 15:09:33.987
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

Hello and welcome!

Please do the following:

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:2952664

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Well I went through with the uninstall. I didn't get any message to tell me it was successful after the uninstaller finished the job, but I didn't get any error message either, so I assume it was properly uninstalled.

Got the dialog asking me whether I want to uninstall it, the uninstallation proceeded, then asked me at the end to restart my laptop, which I did. Got those "please don't turn off your computer" screens both when logging off and after the restart, and I got no error messages. I assume it was successful.

The good news is it does say it's all ok now. The bad news is it didn't solve the issues I had run it for to begin with. And now for the backstory...

A few weeks ago the wifi on my laptop stopped working: it simply wouldn't detect any wifi networks whatsoever. Reinstalling drivers didn't work. SFC scan was finding corrupt files but couldn't fix them. As a last resort, I decided to apply some pending updates. The result was that the wifi was fixed, however many other things were broken.

1. Skype started giving an error at launch, preventing it from running.

2. A program I use to make webms gives a similar error when I try to browse for an input source.

3. I can't drag and drop files in Discord anymore.

4. When I try to go to Documents from a box like this (it works fine in Windows Explorer) it hangs for around 10 seconds then nothing happens.

5. I wanted to uninstall the updates that caused the issue but nothing at all happens when I click on Installed Updates, so I'm locked out of even viewing them.

6. Similarly, some Control Panel blue links (such as Uninstall a program) do nothing when clicked.

7. I wanted to uninstall Skype and reinstall it, but I was met with this error.

This is very strange. Can you please run System Update Readiness Tool from Windows Update Posting instructions and attach CheckSUR.log.

Also, which antivirus software are you using?

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, please run SURT again and attach CheckSUR.log

Meanwhile, I've been stuck with SURT at this stage for quite a while:

No changes in the listed issues. Instead, this happened now, which wasn't happening before:

A windows will appear prompting you if you want to continue with the process. Please press Y.
Another menu will appear. Press 2: Reset Windows Update Components.
Verify that you have selected number 2 and hit Enter.
Wait until the process is complete.
You should see the message: The operation completed successfully.
Press any key to continue. . .

Close the window and reboot.

Try updates again and let me know which are listed.
