Re: Children lost their Father, Code 80073712 Windows Update encountered an unknown e

    Yes, there is progress

    Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.

    1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

    2. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
    3. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
    4. Press the Fix button.
    5. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
    6. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
    7. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
    8. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

    Step 2:
Start the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
On completion, attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply.

Great, the SUR tool is finally happy.
Check Windows Update again and report the result.
If it fails, run sfc /scannow again and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Re: Children lost their Father, Code 80073712 Windows Update encountered an unknown e

    Hello,

The update failed as per the attached screen dumps. First update error comes back after reboot referencing failed Windows 10 install, which I'm not attempting at this time, and a second error after invoking Windows Update process.

As requested, sfc /scannow was run and its log file is attached as well.

    Fingers crossed for a solution.

Do not try to upgrade a broken OS to a newer OS. The upgrade may fail or the corruption might arise in the new OS.
I cannot open the attachment, it is invalid somehow.
    Please do following:

    1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
    2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
    3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.

      Code:
      copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
    4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.

Getting access denied. Try opening the file via other text processor.

That's normal. Just follow the instructions in message #25 and all goes well.

    No problem.

    Restart the machine.
Put a check mark at 2017-12 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7... only and try to install it.
    Report the result.

%windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt" does not seem to work every time. Not sure what is going on. I had the same issue yesterday until I tried again in the morning.

You forgot to typ copy in front.
    The correct command is
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
    .

The latest CBS.log file is clean.
Boot your computer into a Clean Boot state following these instructions: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
After that, run sfc /scannow again.
Attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

That log is very small. How does Windows Update perform now ?
