It appears that some security software you have is locking the file we need to update. Use process explorer to find out which program is causing the issue. You will want to search for input.inf Resolving the 'File is open in another program' Windows Issue

I performed the command sucessfully from there. I then booted my machine and tried the update. It failed. When I tried process explorer it never told me any file that was causing the problem. I had terminated both vipre and malware bytes and the services were all stopped but until the cd boot I was unable to run the pnputil sucessfully

BrianDrab Emeritus Joined Oct 20, 2014 Posts 18,131 Location United States Mar 13, 2018 #48 Please do uninstall both and try. If it doesn't work, don't re-install them yet. I want to get the update installed before you re-install.

If it fails, please do the following as I think there is another conflicting software. Step#1 - FRST Scan 1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one. 2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. 3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already). 4. Press Scan button. 5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop) 6. Please copy and paste log back here. 7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
