    I've attached poqexec.zip for your review.

    Remote Access Connection Manager has a startup type of Manual. Its Property window shows it is stopped.
    Routing and Remote Access has a startup type of Automatic. Its Property window shows it is stopped.
    I didn't stop either of these services - this is how I found them when checking services.msc.

    I don't know if those services are related to Remote Desktop Connection, but please note that I use RDC to view the desktop of the XP system in the HP 5710 thinclient (for VoIP) from time to time - I don't have enough room on my desk for another monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I've been using RDC to access the thinclient this way for years.

    1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
    2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
    3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
    reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Control\Network\{4d36e974-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

    4. Notepad will open showing some info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

    I copied and pasted the command into the elevated command dialog. CMD opened in C:\Windows\system32>, but when I ran the command I only got the following message: "ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value." I tried backing out to the root directory (C:\), but got the same message.

    For grins and giggles, I went into the registry and looked for that entry, but only got as far as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ - the subdirectories below that didn't include ControlSet. The closest I could find was CurrentControlSet, which *does* have an entry in it for \Control\Network\{4d36e974-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}. Should I change the command to "reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4d36e974-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt" and re-run it in the elevated command dialog box?

    I'm a bit leery of mucking about in the registry, so I bailed while waiting for further direction.

    You can export the key or entry as you call it you found directly from the registry without modifying anything by right-clicking it and selecting export.

    1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
    Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).

    Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
    1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
    2. Run the attached fix.
    3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the error pops up. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.


    4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
    5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

    My backup insists on disconnecting from the network before the backup completes. Arrrgg! Different problem - for a different day.

    The version numbers of the RegIIS version were different; your example above showed 4.0.30319.36415, and when I opened CMD as admin it returned 4.0.30319.0, as shown below.

    I'm afraid we're bumping into the ceiling of my knowledge again.

    I found several web sites like Download ASP.NET | The ASP.NET Site and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ramework-4-0-3 that looked like hopeful candidates, but I wasn't able to find a download link for ASP.NET 4.0.30319.36415, let alone sort things clearly enough to know I wouldn't shoot myself in the foot when installing it.

    I did not see an "Update" option for the entry that looks like it might be ASP.NET in Control Panel (Microsoft .NET framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack, with a version number of 4.0.30319). The next closest candidate was Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 - but it's got a version number of 4.7.02053.

    Sooo... could you point me to a page with an available download and update procedure?

    I ran Windows Update from the control panel, and it indicated there were 3 important updates, but only 2 were pre-checked for downloading & installation. The installation initially indicated success, then failed and reverted after rebooting. Windows update indicates the following:

    2-21-18 2018-02 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4074598) Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80004005
    2-21-18 Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.261.1370.0) Installation status: Successful

    Let me know if you need any update history prior to tonight's attempt.
