The drivers are from MicroSoft, so I think it means that Win7 is corrupt in an area that deals with driver sigs. USB ports do work if I disable signiture enforcement. Click to expand... Have you tried to install the drivers for the USB ports? What is the computer/laptop brand and model? SFC continues to report corrupt files that can't be fixed (I ran it & then got the log immediately). CBS.log - Google Drive Click to expand... I still don't see any file being repaired in that log. In a similar vein, the Win10 nag kept coming back, even though I uninstalled KB3035583 and then hid it after a "check for updates". It should not have been able to re-install. (It also makes my wi-fi load slowly.) Click to expand... You could use GWX Control Panel to control/disable the updates for Windows 10. Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads So now I am really considering doing an upgrade in place to get a fresh start (will be the eleventh time, although the first 5 were from a corrupt ISO, so they don't count)... Click to expand... A Repair Install is quite fase. Personally, I just do the upgrade, and then leave the updates install overnight. You can even install 2 KBs beforehand that will speed up the updates installation process.

Click to expand... Of course. That was the very first thing I did. From three separate sources. And then I noticed the default drivers (i.e., those that load when all others have been uninstalled) are from MicroSoft. You know, as in Windows MicroSoft - those guys. So I don't think there should have been a problem... Computer is Dell Studio1555 PP39L service tag 9322XK1 (I don't recommend; stay far away...) Dell Studio 1555 Specs - CNET You could use GWX Control Panel to control/disable the updates for Windows 10. Click to expand... Did that already...as soon as I saw it was back. A Repair Install is quite fase. Click to expand... Unfortunate place for a typo...are you recommending a repair install or an upgrade install, and are those really different?

However, I now have lots of practice and quite a few tricks. So I'll do it anyway. Having said that, don't be surprised if I come back soon with a new set of issues... And thank you so much for all your assistance so far. You have definitely earned some karma points.

Sticking with Windows 7? The forecast calls for pain | ZDNet Swap the KB3083710 for KB3138612 (most up to date). https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/3138612

I've got it looking for updates now... If I can't get it going I'll open a new topic. (Got to head for bed since I have to up @ 4am) Letting it run...
