A friend called me last week, saying his HP laptop could not boot up. We did some troubleshooting and, thankfully, later we could boot it up using "Last Known Good Configuration".

Today, he reported Windows displayed a pop up window ("Optional update delivery is not working") with message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting".

Laptop specs:
HP Elite 8460p
Windows 7 Pro SP1

This was purchased from CDW 5+ years ago and working fine all the time. We are sure the license is legit.

When checking Computer Properties, the Windows activation section shows: Status Now Available, Product ID: Not Available

We tried restarting the computer, running "slui.exe", "slui.exe 4" both showed error in popup: Windows Activation - An error has occurred. You can also contact Hewlett-Packard Company by phone to help resolve this problem. Expanding the details, it shows: Code: 0xD000034, Description: Unable to find a detailed error description. Unknown facility code of 0x1000 (4096L) Facility error: 0x34 (52L)

We ran Avast Cloudcare full computer scan, "sfc /scannow" returns everything ok, did "chkdsk /f /r" as well. Still cannot re-activate the license.

We ran Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012). Below is the report.

Any suggestions please?

Thank you. We tried that but got error:
On a computer running Microsoft windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe
0x2a 0xD0000034' to display the error text.
Error: 0xD0000034

We tried "slmgr /ipk [window product key]", got this:
Error: 0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid.

We tried a bunch of other slmgr switches, got similar results, see screenshots:
Screenshot-1
Screenshot-2
Screenshot-3

(Also, the wi-fi and printer started not working. We check Device Manager, it says Windows cannot load the drivers.
Screenshot-4
We tried uninstalling the driver, but nothing happened after clicking the Uninstall button (with delete driver checkbox checked).)

Any other suggestions?
