Hello Sysnative,

I've scoured the internet and found that many people have the same issue as mine.
No matter how many times I restart my computer, uninstall recent updates, or yell at the top of my lungs, windows update continually tells me that it needs to reboot in order to apply important updates.
I've tried numerous fixes including but not limited to:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...es-telling-me-i-must-restart-my-computer.html
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-keeps-asking-me-restart-over-over-again.html
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/5873-windows-update-restart-loop.html

Unfortunately I dont have any system restore points that I can use, due to an unrelated issue with my external HD.
My problem is pretty much exactly the same as those described in the links above.
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi you're my only hope!

The CBS zip doesn't seem to want to upload, I'm not sure if its too large (37.2MB) or what is happening but I'll follow up this post by immediately trying the steps described for files that are too large.

Here is the SFC:

Hi dpunk4 :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Do you still need help?

Alright, follow the instructions below please.

IGJdB0T.png
System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Scan
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log;
  • Download the right version of SURT for your system;
    • Your version of Windows is:
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Thanks very much,
here is the log you requested.
Additionally there is a CheckSUR.persist.log, not sure if that is pertinent, but thought I'd mention it.

Attachments

The CheckSUR.persist.log contains all the past CheckSUR.log. I need the most recent which is CheckSUR.log so the one you attached is good :) Now to see if SFC reports anything.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

These aren't critical :) And SFC returned a clean log. Alright, follow the instructions below please.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

RebootFailCount REG_DWORD 0x0
LastError REG_DWORD 0x0

All good no worries :) Did you ever went in the Registry to add/modify/delete keys and/or values?

do you mean since I ran that the last time?
If so, not that I am aware of, maybe malware bites or another program changed something...
I've tried to not fiddle too much with the issue since we started corresponding, but I may have tried running windows fixit or windows trouble shoot without thinking.

Alright, I was just wondering :) In that case, I'll make the fix automated for you. Download and launch the following file, Script.reg. When it asks you if you want to merge the modifications in your Registry, accept. Let me know if you get a success or error message in return.

Looks like it was successful.
Should I just select "restart now" on the windows update or do I need to deactivate anything/do a specific reboot?
