Yet another failed sfc /scannow

Due to user error (I made a stupid mistake) I am frequently getting: This program can't start because api-ms-win-downlevel-ole32-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer.

As suggested in many places, I've run sfc /scannow
This has not been able to fix the error, and has provided a log file I cannot attach because it is over the maximum size. (3.54MB)

On attempting to run SFCfix, I get the following:

Obviously, I am online, as I am posting from the PC with the issue, and I just downloaded SFCfix today.

I'm guessing that the log you mention is CBS.log. Please follow the instructions below so that we can take a peek at the log.



Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:
    Code: 
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. Press Enter
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

I try to help out where I can and was going to have a go at this but the fixes I see applied for users with issues similar to yours are a bit complex for my liking.

I'd better leave it to the experts, I'm sure one will be along presently.

Hopefully this works, not sure if it will fail from the update check.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the

  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  4. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.

Dragging SFCFix.zip onto SFCFix.exe did nothing, so I instead ran it from the administrator command prompt as follows:

Indeed, The vast majority of the issues I was having have disappeared.
