[SOLVED] WU and SFCfix

I'm trying to get a netbook cleaned up before upgrading to win10. I have 3 windows updates that fail repeatedly, and the win 10 upgrade fails. running sfc /scannow indicates corruption. SO does sfcfix.exe tool.

what can i remove from the log folder before I zip and upload? It's >1GB.

end goal is to get windows in a shape to receive win 10 upgrade.

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. How are you trying to upgrade to Windows 10? Via Windows Update or the Media Creation Tool? You do not need to address Windows Update issues on your current system if you plan on upgrading to Windows 10, because all the system files are being replaced by Windows 10 ones, so the "corruption" won't exist anymore.

Thanks Aura, I have tried to get Win10 both with windows update (failure 80070714Unknown Error) and via the Media Creation tool (USB Flash and USB HDD). I actually used the media creation first as WU wasn't flagging my WinX eligibility until a week or so ago. WU has been failing with updates KB3075226 and KB2984972 since they were released and I thought that might be related. I do not recall the errors when using Media Creation tool.

Recently (following windows forums) I have retried the install after doing each of the following and rebooting: 1. Verifying Updates service was set to auto (it was manual). 2. Removing Anti-virus (just have MSE now) 3. Clean booting (clearing anything non MS in msconfig.exe) 4. Running Win7's Windows update troubleshooter.

I would like to do an upgrade as opposed to a clean install because I beleive: 1. My Win7 key can't activate win10. 2. I have some hardware specific apps that I'm not sure I can find, much less re-install.

The Media Creation Tool now contains Windows 10 TH2, which allows you to clean install it using a Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 product key, so you could do it that way. What kind of apps are we talking about here?

Usually, OEM software can be downloaded from your computer/laptop's driver webpage on your manufacturer's website :) Let me know how it goes!

So far so good. WinX setup accepted the key. Installation is completed now and win10 running well. Thanks for keeping me clear of the rabbit hole on this one.
