Hi, there. I am a first time poster. I've deleted a huge number of files from this computer and have approx. 75% of my hard drive free. I've uninstalled many unused programs. I read the instructions and ran the SFCFix. I've attached the text file from the scan. I attempted to attach a Wordpad file with a screen shot from an error that popped up during the scan. The error reads: This application has failed because api-ms-win-core-misc-l1-1-0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I have Malwarebytes 3.0. It has cleaned my computer of all malware/viruses. I also have CCleaner, which has corrected registry errors. I've defragged. I've run probably every Windows utility there is to run and they all say everything is fine. My machine, like many others, hangs on Microsoft Updates and never finds anything.

Still, I cannot update windows. It hangs. I have left it for an entire weekend and still nothing. The CPU is dominated by wuauserv while running the updater. I have my updates set to Never. I am already in Administrator. I do hope there's something that can be done for this computer. Thanks so much.

Re: Vista 32 bit won't update - CPU wuauserv occupying CPU

So, I looked around after posting and saw that, unless I'm wrong, there's really nothing I can do with this computer since the other website you refer users to doesn't even give any info for Vista. I did create my test info list. I am at the point where I either want to fix this or just stay off the net and use the computer for editing pics. Either way, I had a pretty good run with this computer. If it really is dead for use on the internet, I can live with that. I do have a Toshiba laptop. I think it has Windows 7 on it which I can use for internet access. Thanks very much for your anticipated reply.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative.

Please start with the following.
1. Download the following update to your desktop but don't install it yet.
Microsoft Update Catalog
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Immediately after your computer restarts, attempt the install of the update as soon as possible.

Let me know the results.

I was successfully able to download that update. I tried running Windows Update for a brief moment, and still, it hangs. Do you have anything else I can try? Thanks so much.

I think so because when I rebooted it appeared as if everything were normal and it updated like it used to after reboot. I tried running the Windows updater again....no deal. However, I rebooted this time out of exhaustion and habit through my regular login, not administrator.

Just to be clear, you downloaded the update to your desktop.
Then you rebooted.
Then after you rebooted you double-clicked on the update that was on your desktop and it installed successfully?

I downloaded. Chrome put it in the download folder. I pulled it over to the desktop. When I did that it created a desktop shortcut. I rebooted. After booting up, I double clicked the shortcut and it appeared to me that it downloaded in the stand alone installer. Afterward and since, I've had Windows Update running throughout the night and it's still running...hanging. At the beginning of the session last night though, I did note two errors pop up on the screen. I caught one and took a screen shot and copied it into the attached word document. I don't know what program it is referring to.

Let's take a look.

1. Click your Start button and then type cmd in the search box. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator.
2. A User Account Control dialog may come up asking for approval. If it does go ahead and allow.
3. A command prompt window will open. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt and hit enter.
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\hotfix.txt"

4. After the command runs there will be a file on your desktop named hotfix.txt.
5. Please zip/attach this file.

All 4 updates installed successfully. Upon reboot before the 3rd update, the error message "mbamtray.exe - Unable to Locate Component" appeared. I can't attach the file, so I'll type what the error says: "This application has failed to start because Qt5Quick.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Thanks very much for your help!

Uninstall and Reinstall (if you wish) Malwarebytes and this should solve your error.

Check for Windows Updates and let me know if it works now. The first time you do this, it could take a couple hours so please let it run.

Ok. Glad it's not another issue (the malwarebytes error). I want to keep this on my computer. The Updater has been running awhile and I'll leave it go. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!!!!

SUCCESS!!! My computer found the updates!!! I downloaded them. It took about an hour and 45 minutes to find them. I had left for the evening to let them download. When I got home, they had finished downloading and the system wanted me to restart. I did so. No errors. Going forward, how should I set Windows Update to act? Also, I have not yet tried to use my computer as normal so I don't know if the CPU will keep giving me the memory error message in connection with wuauserv.

Thank you for getting me this far!!!!

Excellent news. You should be good to go. I would let Windows Update act normally.
