Hi,

I have attached the cbs.log as a zip file. This server gets updates directly from Microsoft, sometimes when checking for updates it seems to hang on downloading the files. if I go into windows catalog and download the individual updates and run them from my hard drive some not all the updates fail.

I have run sfc .scannow no problems found, cbs.log attached\
I have run SFCFix.exe with the SFCFixScript.txt containing the lines

OK, here is what we need to start.

Step#1 - Retrieve Components Hive
 1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Step#2 - Export CBS Registry Key

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file CBS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace.

Step#3 - Export SideBySide

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SxS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace.

Thanks. Please attempt the following and let me know the results.

Remove Update Manually
 1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:3108347

3. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

When I tried the normal windows update after this it failed with the same error code.

When you ran it did you get any message at all? You should have received a message that it was successfully uninstalled if it actually worked.

When I ran it the wusa /uninstall /KB:3108347 command the "Windows Standalone Installer" dialog box appeared and it seemed to process the command without any problems. Nothing further information in the command shell.

When I try this again, the"Windows Standalone Installer" opens and another dialog box appears saying "The update KB3108347 is not installed on this computer". Nothing in the command shell.

OK, please do the following.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this zip file and save to your desktop. The name of this file will be Windows8.1-KB3108347-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and choose Extract All...
  3. Leave the defaults and choose the Extract button. You can close the window that opens.
  4. Right-click your start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin). Answer Yes to the User Account Control dialog if it appears.
  5. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:%UserProfile%\Desktop\Windows8.1-KB3108347-x64.cab\Windows8.1-KB3108347-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message or something similar.
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart Windows to complete this operation.
    Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please
