Hi,

I'm stuck at a problem that sounds like it is similar to what a lot of other people have had posted about here so I'm really hoping you can shed some light. Basically, after I had to use Symantec System Recovery 2013 to restore a Windows 2012 Server backup image Windows Update is broken (it endlessly looks for updates).

If I run sfc /scannow I get the same error message others have posted about here about corrupt files being detected but being able to fix them. I read the instructions on what to post so I'm attaching a log from SFCFix as well as a .zip of the CBS folder but let me know anything else I can do/provide which would help as I really appreciate it!

Thanks!
S.

Hi again,

I know there's more requests for help than there are analysts to help but I'm still stuck with this one and would dearly appreciate any assistance. I'm happy to provide any additional information or provide logs just let me knwo!

Thanks!

I saw in a similar thread a request to run dism and provide the logs so in case helpful here's mine in case helpful.

Hi, no apology necessary but yes I'm very much in need still and would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer!

Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Just double-checking because I saw you attached another SFCFix.zip file in your most recent post - you don't want me to do anything with that, just run sfc /scannow?

OK, your corruption is fixed. This may have had nothing to do with the endless searching for updates though. Go ahead and try.

Hi Brian, hmm you're right. I also see no more corrupt file errors but Windows Update still searches endlessly....any ideas?
