Hello All,

Request you to please help me with this issue. I have tried the below mentioned steps so far but no avail.

1) Via automatic updates using WSUS - Fails
2) downloaded manually on the server, updates fail. (using both domain and local admin accounts)
3) Tried to reset windows updates by following Microsoft article --> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components , still same issue
4) downloaded and installed windows updates readiness checker, same issue.
5) Ran SFCFIX.exe, output is mentioned below

Hello All,

I am unable to upload the CBS log. It is 47 MB in size after zipping.
Also I tried download the script txt file to check if it would automatically upload the CBS log, however the link to download the txt file does not work.
Please help

The first thing I would do is to completely uninstall the AV from this particular server. Install your updates and then re-install. I believe there to be a conflict. May just need uninstalled/reinstalled.

Hi Brian,

I have uninstalled the AV and then then tried to install the updates, same issue.
The updates get installed, But on the reboot we get message "Failure configuring updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer". The thing then just sits there for a while reverts the changes and boots back after a while. The updates however are not installed.

Regards,
Jayesh

OK, I wasn't aware they were installing and then reverting on reboot. For that issue I need to look at two logs.
c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log Note: Please also attach the previous log that may have been archived.
c:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

OK, please do the following.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4012212-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Keep the defaults and click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4012212-x64.cab\Windows6.1-KB4012212-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up.

Hello Brian,

I tried to install the update using DISM, But the same issue occurs.
The update gets installed successfully using the dism command, but after the reboot of the server, the update does not get installed the system reverts back.
Please let me know the next steps.

Regards,
Jay

Are you able to also upload the previous CBS log for me to review? If you are unable to identify the previous CBS log then please zip up and upload the entire CBS folder.

Thanks.

That was helpful. Please do the following.

Step#1 - DISM /ScanHealth
