Tools used in this order to create log files:
vcredist_x86.exe (redistributable required for SFCFix.exe)
windowsupdateagent-7.6-x64.msu (updating with latest available Update Agent for Windows 2008)
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab (attempt solving update issue with MS Tools)
SFCFix.exe (3.0
scan /scannow
Rerun the update - same errors.

Updates blocked from installing KB3147071, KB3172605, and KB4034664. All three give same consistent error message 8007000D.

Attached are the log files. Issue is very persistent and I ended up here after trying this for a longer time. Other servers update normally but this one doesn't.

Also ran net start 0 > &notepad 0, attached output as well.

Puzzled how to fix it as nothing works that you can find on the Internet. I believe one or two solutions may have made it a bit worse when trying to reset the update system but did not impact how it functioned. But I am stuck at this moment.

Re: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64 - persistent Error Code 8007000D

After trying a bit more I decided to run Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. The tool is free of charge and seems to be fine for a desktop PC. I saw it being advised more often to fix update problems when you run into these issues and do not want to run a full repair installation. However, for a server I would be a bit more cautious as the software seems to turn off the network sharing features that you need from a DC. But it did get one new update and that installed normally.

Unfortunately, the other three updates KB3147071, KB3172605, and KB4034664 still do not install. When done with that single KB you think at least that one worked but the OS will return after a while with the message that this same KB is still available to be installed. So problem has not been solved and I am running out of options and getting really annoyed.

One out of three servers updating goes fine, one goes with some hiccups but you manage to keep it updating and the third is just not willing to update and keeps generating errors on these specific updates.

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named softwaremaniac. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Newer updates have installed on the server but these still return with the same error: KB3147071, KB3172605, KB3068708 and KB4038777.

Something may have changed but still returning update with error code 8007000D.

Step#1 - Disable Windows Update
1. Click your Start button and type cmd.exe into the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Click Continue if prompted with the User Account Control dialog.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter. Note: You will have to right-click your mouse in the command-prompt window and select paste. You can't use the keyboard shortcuts.
sc stop wuauserv && sc config wuauserv start= disabled

4. You should see something similar to the following. The important parts are in Red. If you see this, you did it correctly.

Code:
SERVICE_NAME: wuauserv
        TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
        STATE : 3 [COLOR=#ff0000]STOP_PENDING[/COLOR]
                                (NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
        WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
        SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
        CHECKPOINT : 0x1
        WAIT_HINT : 0x7530
[SC] ChangeServiceConfig [COLOR=#ff0000]SUCCESS[/COLOR]

Step#2 - Retrieve Components/Software Hives
Note: The Software have has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, two of which are named COMPONENTS and SOFTWARE.
  • Copy these two files to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on these files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.
  • Important: Make sure you do not install or update anything on your machine after sending the hives to me.

Step *1
cmd Administrator rights:
sc stop wuauserv && sc config wuauserv start= disabled

response:
SERVICE_NAME: wuauserv
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 3 STOP_PENDING
(NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x1
WAIT_HINT : 0x7530

Step #2
RegBak
C:\Windows\RegBak\FS1\17-9-2017\
Send COMPONENTS and SOFTWARE as requested via WeTransfer with PM message with link instead of email to you. Zipping is automatically done. Will expire within 7 days.

Step#1 - Enable Windows Update
1. Click your Start button and type cmd.exe into the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Click Continue if prompted with the User Account Control dialog.

3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
